Update Windows media player to 2.5.0.1 on Windows 7

I am trying to use the OverDrive Media console but I cannot upload books because it says the security on my windows media player is out of date.  I tried the upgrade tool that is built into OverDrive but nothing happened.  Then I tried the website everyone says to go to (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp) and that did nothing.  The button is not pushable.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 that is causing the problem.  Any Ideas?

Hi Dsa2402,

a) Do you get any error message when you try to upload/download books?

Currently there is no security update for Windows Media Player.

Check if your Over Drive Media console is compatible for Windows 7. Click here

You may also try the following steps. This may not be a resolution but a possible workaround. ( only if you get the following "error code 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect for OverDrive media console ” )

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
  3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
  4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
  5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Close the Control Panel
  8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

  1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

  1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
  3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    Had this problem.  It was a Google Chrome incompatibility issue.  Opened same site with internet explorer and it worked fine.

    I initially tried the update with Internet Explorer, then went to Chrome and finally Firefox.  I tried IE a couple of more times and none of them worked.

    I tried all of the above solutions and what finally worked for me was something extremely simple.  (Dell 15R running Windows 8 and IE10).  I found a .WMA file on my computer and double clicked it to get it to attempt to run.  The Windows Media Player started and told me that it needed an update in order to run the requested file and offered to download the file.  I told it to go ahead.  Once the download was complete the media player opened all the way and the file began to play.  I then went back into my public library site and reselected the .WMA audio book file to download and it loaded into the Overdrive Console with no problem.

    I had a similar problem using Chrome.  I tried to upgrade using windows media player - but no luck, just sat there doing nothing. Next tried to update using the link through Chrome - again no luck. Eventually opened the link in IE and uprade worked ok. must be something in-compatible with Chrome.
