Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

Hope this helps.

I had these green check marks on all of my desktop icons too. All you have to do is right click the desktop and click refresh.

So, every time they come back I just click refresh? I knew that would clear them temporarily, but why are they there? Is there a permanent fix, or is it just the way Windows is working? I also occasionally see small X's instead of check marks. Still no definitive answer. and it's notNorton as someone suggested so the question still lingers....

After I turned the computer all the way off and turned it back on, I reinstalled Windows 10 and everything was fine.  No more check marks.
