Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    Hello, maybe a bit late but I got the problem just now.

    I solved simply clicking on a free space of the desktop to make it the active folder and pressing F5 (refresh).

    The response is true.  For me this occurred right after Norton ran a security scan, then denoting my desktop appl.as safe with the green check marks..  I called Norton and they said the same thing that is referenced in the above comment.
