Windows 7 Windows Media Player 12 won't update the library when I add an item to the library, additionally when I delete a file from it's containing folder the media player doesn't remove it from the library. Can you help please?

If all these steps suggested above doesnt work close WMP12 stop all running services and try to open : "C:\Users"Your Username" \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player" and delete all the contained files (maybe copy them to another folder for a backup).
Afterwards open WMP 12 press F3 and the library index works how it is supposed to!

Unresponsive library locations usually means that they're not indexed by Windows Search, which is required for automatic updates.
Please go to Start, type services.msc in the Search field, and press Enter. In Services, double click the Windows Search service. Make sure that the Startup type *isn't* set to Manual or Disabled, and that the service status is Started. Does that help?

Well been a month now and even with search index enabled I've still had to nuke the WMP files at least once a week to get it to recognize deleted or added files. :-(
Did you also manually add the folder to the Search index as suggested in that thread? Does the corresponding library location still come up as Unresponsive?
I suggest that you also check if the Window Search service is still running when you're seeing the issue again - there's a chance that the service has unexpectedly stopped, e.g. because of a crash.

Manually added and any folder you add to the media library is automatically added to the search index. When it's indexed it no longer shows up as unresponsive, but as I said it didn't do anything to reduce the frequency of the problem.
