Windows 7 Windows Media Player 12 won't update the library when I add an item to the library, additionally when I delete a file from it's containing folder the media player doesn't remove it from the library. Can you help please?

If all these steps suggested above doesnt work close WMP12 stop all running services and try to open : "C:\Users"Your Username" \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player" and delete all the contained files (maybe copy them to another folder for a backup).

Afterwards open WMP 12 press F3 and the library index works how it is supposed to!

    I had the same problem. Couldn't even do the SFC scan, some administrator error in cmd. I skipped to the second part of the solution and couldn't past step 3 either. I decided to manually search for any .wmdb files and delete them. This worked!

    1. Click on Windows Start Button
    2. Select Computer from menu bar.
    3. In top, right-hand corner search box type .wmdb
    4. Delete all .wmdb files
    5. Open Media Player
    6. Hit F3 to update

    Hope this works for you too.

    Hello there,

    Thanks for getting back to me about this. I ran the SFC scan and that came back saying:

    'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations'

    ...which sounds good.

    I then started the next set of steps, but couldn't get beyond step 3:

    1. Type the following into the textbox:

    [list]%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

    ...when I enter this it says:

    'Windows cannot find '[list]C:\Users\MediumRob\Local'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.'

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft answers.

    I suggest you to perform system file checker, it scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

    Here are the steps:

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    2. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    3. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:

    sfc /scannow

    Follow these steps and check if it works fine.

    1. Close Microsoft Media Player for at least 30 seconds
    2. Click Start and then Run
    3. Type the following into the textbox:

    [list]%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player

    1. Click OK and a folder showing you your library files will appear
    2. Erase all the files that end with .wmdb
    3. Open Microsoft Media Player
    4. Push F3
    5. Select the locations for your music files
    6. WMP will reindex your music
