There could be a possibility that the recording device could be faulty or the driver could be missing since you get a message "An audio recording device cannot be found"
Step 1 : To check if a driver is faulty
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Double-click the appropriate device category, and then look for an entry for the device you are having a problem with.
3. Right-click the entry for the recording device, and then click Properties.
4. Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to see if it mentions any problems with the device—specifically, a problem with the driver.
If you suspect that a driver you received from the manufacturer is faulty, contact the manufacturer.
Step 2 : Try to update the driver.
Some devices have drivers that you need to install yourself. If you download a driver that isn't self-installing, follow these steps:

Step 4 : Uninstall and reinstall a driver
1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel , clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Locate it, right click on it and select properties .
3. Go to driver tab and click on Uninstall button to uninstall the driver associated with the device.
Once the uninstall completes, restart your computer, it will automatically detect and install it again, and install the new driver which you downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.
Step 5 : Check Audio Services:
- Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box.
- Scroll down the list of services, right-click Windows Audio and select Start.
- Select Properties for Windows Audio and set its Startup Type to Automatic.
If the Windows Audio service does not start and you get the error Error 1068:
The dependency service or group failed to start, then make sure that the following services are started and their Startup Type is set to Automatic.
