Windows 7 and Bose Companion 5 speaker system losing sound intermittently.

I'm using the Windows 7 Ultimate RC, bought the full version, just haven't installed yet.  I also am using Bose Companion 5 speakers.  Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard, and an AMD Phenom II processor.  My problem is this, my speakers work for an amount of time, usually less than a day, then all of a sudden they'll stop working, either in the middle of playing World of Warcraft, watching a video, whatever, all of a sudden they just stop working.  The speakers are still listed as default in the sound settings and are still valid in hardware manager, I can unplug the USB and plug it back in and it shows up as working, etc. but no sound comes out until I reboot the computer.  I am not using a hub and have tried different ports, please help.  I've read around and other people are having issues with the AMD cool 'n quiet function acting up, but mine is off by default in bios, and i've also ran the AMD power monitor, both have no effect, I still lose sound completely and randomly.

None of this works ... the problem still exists.  I thought I had it solved in the power settings ... if you go to advanced there's a spot to turn off USB select suspend settings, it worked for 3 days this time before deciding to just shut off again.  Anything you can do to look into all this would be appreciated.

You are seeing a driver problem, and the only real solution is a better sound driver. You should keep checking for driver updates, if you wish to use the devuice in Win 7.

I had the same issue, Found that there is a conflict between the Bose USB and the onboard "High Definition audio" when I opened up the control panel " manage audio devices" tab I noticed the 2 devices were cycling from active to inactive.   Try disabling the High Def audio driver, and leave the Bose speaker as default.. Worked for me.  Im running an  ASUS P7H55D-M EVO mobo, i7 860 chip.

I have had the same issue with my brand new Dell XPS desktop running Windows 7 64 bits and Bose Companion 5 USB speakers. I suspected it was a driver issue but as it was pointed out here there were no driver updates from Microsoft. No drivers were provided by Bose on the speakers. Tried all sorts of things I have seen on this and other posts including USB power settings, disabling other sound devices, switching off nearby dimable lamps:-) Nothing worked. The speakers played some random length of perfect music either in iTune or Windows Media or youTube, then all of sudden it emitted horrible high picthed noise. It seemed to cause iTune or Windows Media to stop normal play until I shut down the players.

Until one day I read someone mentioned a workaround of plugging in the speaker through a USB hub. I found an old USB 1.2 hub in my drawer and was a bit reluctant to plug it into my new USB 2 slots on the back of new desktop thinking the old USB 1.2 hub might cause sound quality to compromise. But given the speaker noise issue, I decided to give a try by plugging the Bose speakers through the USB hub. Well, the result isun-interrupted music since then! I have been testing for last a few days so far no breakups or high pitched noises.

At the end I believe it is still a driver issue but nevertheless by using a USB hub I have got around the issue before MS or Bose fix their issues! If you like me tried all other things and still found yourself stuck between MS and Bose technical supports, then you probably want to try a USB hub.

I have what appears to be same problem since upgrading to Win 7 last year.  My Bose companion 5 speakers will be playing just fine and then they quite.  It appears that activity on my logitec wireless Keyboard/Mouse port causes the problem.  At least, every time the speakers stop, I am using the mouse for navigation.  If this is related to a a USB driver conflict, I still don't know what to do as I've checked for driver updates and all seems up to date.  I keep windows updated.  What now?

I have the same problem (Windows 7, BOSE Companion 5 speakers), and none of the options here have resolved it, including the use of an USB hub (2.0 and 1.1).  MS Fix It diags show nothing wrong.

Certainly looks like a driver problem for Windows 7.

Looks like I should have waited until SP1.
