Windows 7 and Bose Companion 5 speaker system losing sound intermittently.

I'm using the Windows 7 Ultimate RC, bought the full version, just haven't installed yet.  I also am using Bose Companion 5 speakers.  Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard, and an AMD Phenom II processor.  My problem is this, my speakers work for an amount of time, usually less than a day, then all of a sudden they'll stop working, either in the middle of playing World of Warcraft, watching a video, whatever, all of a sudden they just stop working.  The speakers are still listed as default in the sound settings and are still valid in hardware manager, I can unplug the USB and plug it back in and it shows up as working, etc. but no sound comes out until I reboot the computer.  I am not using a hub and have tried different ports, please help.  I've read around and other people are having issues with the AMD cool 'n quiet function acting up, but mine is off by default in bios, and i've also ran the AMD power monitor, both have no effect, I still lose sound completely and randomly.

None of this works ... the problem still exists.  I thought I had it solved in the power settings ... if you go to advanced there's a spot to turn off USB select suspend settings, it worked for 3 days this time before deciding to just shut off again.  Anything you can do to look into all this would be appreciated.

You are seeing a driver problem, and the only real solution is a better sound driver. You should keep checking for driver updates, if you wish to use the devuice in Win 7.

Mark, there IS NO DRIVER UPDATE for the Bose Speakers!

    1. Chipset - done.
    2. Bose Drivers - done.

My system does the same thing Quad Core CPU on an Asus motherboard running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Even tried the power settings for USB - no dice.

The driver come directly from Microsoft, Bose does not have any drivers listed on the website. Maybe I should ship my Bose Series 5 to Microsoft for them to figure out where they went wrong with the driver.

I have a Sony Vaio Desktop PC that is dual-boot with Original Windows XP and Windows 7.  Bose Companion 5 speakers work without any problems with Windows XP.  Under Windows 7 I lose sound when I change channels in Media Center.  I unplug the speakers' USB plug and re-instert the plug and the sound returns.   Problem is only with Windows 7.

I had the same problem.  In windows 7, go to the power profile (I use High performance).

    Go to advance power options.

    Go to USB Settings.

    go to selective suspend setting

    Select disable.

I guess it cuts out the USB if it is enabled.

Seems to work great now.  I tried other solutions posted on the web, but this seems to be the only one that worked.

    Edit:

    I am using win 7 64bit on a Dell Mobile Precision M4400.

Here's another suggestion for anyone having this issue as well..

After following all of the below troubleshooting recommendations and having no luck, I decided to break things down to the very basics, that being my USB connection.

Obviously, if your USB drivers are under a lot of data transfer stress, devices can get kicked out. (if you have printers, scanners, cameras etc plugged in and running).

My issue was with my Western Digital "My Book" and its software called WDSmartWare. I noticed that even after unplugging the External Backup drive I was still having issues with the

sound clipping out and sounding somewhat distorted for 5-10 mins before it would drop audio all together. At this point I decided to look at my current processes. This is when I noticed

the WDSmartWare process that was running was taking a gross amount of system resources as per what my system thought was associated with USB use. After killing the processes

from the MyBook, I unplugged the Bose Companion 5 system from my PC, then plugging it back back in after about 30 secs. The sound popped right on, no issues at all. I have now

been able to play games, music, etc with no issues whatsoever. I have tested this for 1 - 5 hours without issue.

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit edition with a Phenom II, Black Edition Processor with 8 gigs of ram, and an NVidia GTX 295 CO-OP edition GPU.

    Hope this helps!
