Hi All, I recently bought a new Packard Bell computer with an OEM Windows 7 that have a problem with the mouse and keyboard. I have been in contact with the manufacturer but they are as puzzled as I over this issue. After searching through numerous of threads regarding mouse problems in windows 7 I have found that there are many who have this problem but there is no consistency in HW setup, i.e. it seems more of an OS problem. I really like both the machine and Windows 7 but I have a nagging issue with frequent 1-2 second freeze/stutter of the mouse during "high" network activity (e.g. streaming a YouTube video). During my search I have encountered at least 4 people who refer that to network activity affect the mouse behavior. Sometimes both keyboard and the mouse becomes totally unresponsive and the system must be restarted. However, at these occasions, the rest of the system is not affected - e.g. skype and other programs continue to run without any glitch or lag. To try to solve this I have done the following (with no affect on the problem): Updated all drivers to the latest. Tried different version of the mouse drivers (running latest now). Tried different versions of the network driver (running latest now). Changed keyboard/mouse to the PS2 that came with the computer. Set the system to "high performance" Changed to USB mouse Tried different Bios "Power/suspend mode" settings (proposed as a solution in another thread) One thing that did have a strange affect on the problem was: Having both PS2 and USB mouse present, touching one when the other freezes/stutters will instantly resolve the freeze/stutter. What I have investigated/noted: There has never been an "error box" popping up in Windows when this happens. In the event viewer I see warnings from "i8042prt" regarding (remember, thie is translated from swedish :) "The device sent an erroneous reply after the keyboard was reset" (This was what I found, if you need more info please ask but provide what to search for and where) My system has the following specs: Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Versions: 6.1.7600 build 7600 Manufacturer: Packard Bell Computer model: ipower G3720 Computer type: x64-based PC Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 core, 8 logic processors BIOS-version and -date American Megatrends Inc. I have this problem too. It has been getting worse and worse. Can occur at ANY time, regardless of what program is running. Everything else works fine except the mouse.

Hi Everyone, Since i used this topic to help me out with my problem, i thought i would contribute. I noticed my mouse slowing down/lagging and being unresponsive to button pushes about a month ago. Just put a new pc together for gaming and photo editing. First time i noticed it, i was copying files from my hard drive to our network attached media player (WD HD TV live hub). I also sometimes noticed it when i played team fortress 2 online with friends while I was also using skype to communicate with my brother about the game. In the beginning i thought it was just coming and going at random occasions, but i started to notice a pattern after a while. So after this i made sure i had all the drivers updated, installed the latest update for my windows 7 OS (64 bit), but the problem persisted. At that time i was using a Logitech MX 3100 keyboard and mouse combination. This is one of the older logitech sets, that still uses the old keyboard connection instead of USB. The mouse is USB attached. I managed to create a setup to test all this. I have a 1.2 Gig file that i copy to my network attached media player. The media player is attached to my router (linksys) with a network cable, and my pc is attached to my router by cable as well. As soon as i start transferring the file to my media player, the mouse stops working (if i move the mouse, the cursor jitters and move shockingly, but not far at all). I have monitored my CPU and Mem usage via task manager and via Norton 360. Both indicate that i only use 12% CPU and only 6% Memory, so that is not the problem. Luckily, i had another mouse lying around, two actually. One is the logitech MX revolution, the other is the laptop portable version of the mx revolution. (don't know the exact numbers, but can look them up if anybody needs to know). When i transfer the file while i am using any of the two revolution mice, the mice work while i transfer the file. Both revolution mice are also wireless. If i connect both the revolution mouse and the original mouse together, only the revolution mouse works while i transfer the file. When i am not transferring the file, both mice work. So, basically, my old mouse gives the problem, and for some reason, the newer mice don't. I won't recommend just buying a new mouse right away, but for me it solved the problem. Luckily i had the mice lying around and i could test it first before trying. I just switched the mice, and if i run into any problems (but for now, it seems to work), i will keep you guys posted. Thanks so much for the help, Cheers

Hello Everyone, I had a problem with my wireless mouse constantly jumping all over the screen or "jittering" when I tried to use it. The problem extended into the BIOS or CMOS setup as well. It seems as though this was caused by a conflict with the USB Ports on Windows 7 64 bit (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Operating System). Please note: Service Pack 1 is installed. I originally thought it was a problem with my motherboard, but after contacting them, they suggested that I try wired mouse to solve the issue. I am now using a Logitech HID-compliant M500 Laser Mouse (corded) that is plugged into a USB port and the jittering or jumping stopped. This particular mouse works well for me because it is a larger mouse, and I have arthritis in my hands. The larger size makes it easier for me to use. There are several mice available that are under $15.00. Perhaps you could try a corded mouse as that might solve the problem. One last note: Please be sure you are using the latest 64 bit drivers for your mouse. I sincerely hope this helps solve your mouse problem! Best Wishes, Bob

I have the same problem when streaming videos on my new laptop (Windows 7, 64-bit). In addition to the mouse freezing, the keyboard either starts scrambling the letters or starts working altogether. The only way to restart the laptop is to switch power off by taking the battery out. Deinstalled Skype, but problem persists. Also, I really need Skype! Also tried all browsers etc. Can Microsoft look into this problem?

I might have a happy ending to this topic :)

I returned my old system end got another one, it worked fine initially but then the mouse started to stutter yet again.

The system had only a few programs installed so I began to uninstall them to see if it changed anything.

One program did - Skype.

I never suspected it as friends of mine are using Windows 7 and Skype without any problem, although they might not be using 64 bit version and quadcore.

My system has now been without stutters and glitches for a week, so I'm fairly sure that this was the problem.

As Skype is a very wide spread IM, it might apply to others as well.
