The problem that "Kevin" gave a cure for is NOT the most common problem of "Icons missing" from the desktop. I and many others are having a problem that happens once a week like clockwork; where 6 (out of 128) desktop icons in my case; come up missing when
I boot up my computer.
It is the same 6 every Sunday. One of these desktop icons is Window's "solitaire"; created by using the "send to desktop feature". The other 5 are created using Window's "create shortcut" feature.
NOTHING but a silly "workaround" has worked; and that is unacceptable. My computer does NOT have the application "InfraRecorder" in it. But the problem repeats itself every Sunday. At NO time is the "show desktop" icon checkmark missing in "view" on the
desktop. It is ALWAYS checked; but I STILL have the problem.
I am so sick of kudos and lauding "fixes" that do NOTHING for many of us; on website after website with a myriad of known problems.
Please: Because a fix works for you does NOT mean that is the cause. It might be; but it may NOT work for countless other problems exhibiting the same symptoms. In other words: be careful of putting one's "pen" in gear before their brain gets engaged.
The problem I am having IS a Microsoft problem; and they "NEED" to FIX it; and make it available as an "update".
Damn their sorry hides
