Disable F1,F3, Etc Hotkeys in Windows 7 Enterprise

I am trying to figure out if there is some built in way to disable the built in hotkeys in windows 7 enterprise? For instance, when I hit F1 it pops up the help window in windows, or a new tab in firefox with firefox help, f3 opens search window etc. I use these keys for many other things, this is really a problem for me.

IT' actually really simple if You have vista or windows 7. Just in start search bar write "mobility" and look in search results for " Windows mobility center". A window will open. find Fuction key in that and select "Function Key" instead of "multimedia"(or any thing else) and that's it.

  THIS LOCKED MY F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 AND SO ON KEYS. I GOT THIS FROM ANOTHER WEBSITE FROM SOMEONE ELSE THIS SHOULD HELP YOU NIGTHER SMITTER

    I agree.  And hitting the function key and F1 brings up a help page.  I use a program at work that networks me to the main office computer, 

    and I need the F1 key to display a search.  It won't work, it just brings up the help page.  And the help page is no help!

    That's excellent news, we can encourage folks with Dell computers to check there for possible solutions.

    Please remember that the Mobility Center can be customized/extended by the computer builder (Dell in this case) and the option to control the hardware Fn-Key capabilities may vary -- it is not provided automatically.  The ability to control these is not handled by Windows or Microsoft in any way whatsoever, and if the option is not there, your only recourse is to contact the system builder.

    my compter is a DELL and my fn +f7 button turns on caret mode. u have any ideas i'm about to just glue the sob down

    If your computer builder created a FnLock key (on my Asus computer, it's Fn-F7), you can lock the Function button on so it always works the way you want.  If they didn't, then you're out of luck.  Windows doesn't even know this is happening, because it's all done at a hardware level, before the keystoke command is ever "sent" to the computer.  If your computer builder didn't design the system the way you desire, you should purchase another computer instead.
