Why does Windows 7 have typing problems?

I'm having the same problem and am so happy that I'm not just going crazy! My Acer Notebook worked fine with Windows XP but I just had it completely serviced and Windows7 downloaded. Now, when I'm typing an email message or anywhere on the net, words (sometimes whole paragraphs) will just disappear, my cursor will jump to somewhere else on the page on its own, the whole screen will move down a page by itself, pages will pop up or disappear, it's almost like my computer is possessed! Just during this post, I've had to correct the computer 8, no make that 9 times. HELP!!!

I have had this problem for as long as I can remember. Very frustrating, but kind of got used to it by often looking at the text as I type it and immediately correcting it rather than typing away happily for a while then having to unpick the results as the cursor danced around at will.

My wife has recently started using my laptop as hers died and she complained vigorously about the behaviour as she was typing so I decided to find the answer.

A few posts have suggested that the root of the problen is with the touchpad on the laptop, I have found this to be true, so if you don't have a touchpad this solution is not for you.

I am running Windows 7 Professional on a Dell Inspiron 1545. I went to:

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse

There were only settings for the USB mouse.

I went to the dell website www.dell.com and searched for driver downloads. I then used the 'refine your search' boxes to enter my operating system (Winows 7 32-bit for me, use yours) and category, Mouse and Keyboards. The only result that came up for me was 'Alps - Driver', which is the driver for my Alps Touchpad.

I downloaded and istalled this driver.

Again, I went to: 

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Mouse

Now it displayed the Mouse Properties Dialogue. The first tab is for Dell Touchpad. I clicked the picture of the touchpad. I then clicked Touchpad Settings. The second box down is for Touch Sensitivity with a sliding control from Light Touch on the left to Heavy Touch on the right. I slid the control to the extreme right and applied the changes.

I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE  : o )

If you have anything other than a Dell, you are obviously going to have to use this as a guide to how to do it for your laptop. I did it for Dell, good luck with yours.

I have the similar problem on my laptop and found a working solution.   I have a new Asus G73J laptop series that came with Synaptics touch pad (available in most laptops).   Apparently the new touch pads are too sensitive sometimes to even your hand hanging and moving over it while typing.   Using a wireless mouse when possible and disabling the mouse pad with its function key (Fn-F9 on my laptop) resolved all the funny acts: random text selection (and erasing on my next key press), sudden dialogs supposedly from clicking on tool bar icons or menu items, mouse pointer moving to the far lower right corner activating the new "show desktop" button, etc...    Try disabling the touch pad and see what happens.   Initially I tried lowering its sensitivity, but it became unresponsive sometimes according to the environmental and finger conditions (food traces, dry/humid air, etc..).

In situations that I can't use my wireless mouse:  once I place the cursor in the typing area, I disable the mouse until finished typing then reenable it once done.

I'm having the same problem and many others seem to be having this problerm also.  Whole sentences disappear from my documents and words end up moving to different lines then I am typing them in.  It's all very strange but from what I have read this is a windows 7 problem.
