Please can you help me - I have an old programmes called Quicken 98 and my new windows 7 laptop won't let me load it on - how can I get this programme on my machine?

Please can you help me - I have Quicken 98 and it won't load on my new Windows 7 laptop - I realise its a very old programme - but it is brilliant and I use it every day - I have the data stored on an external drive - I really need help with this please

ps My cassells dictionery disc won't load either - why do's this happen when the systems change - it really isn't fair

Today, 64-bit processors have become the standard for systems ranging from the most scalable servers to desktop PCs. The way to take full advantage of these systems is with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows products.

The 64-bit systems offer direct access to more virtual and physical memory than 32-bit systems and process more data per clock cycle, enabling more scalable, higher performing computing solutions. There are two 64-bit Windows platforms: x64-based and Itanium-based.

x64 solutions are the direct descendants of x86 32-bit products, and are the natural choice for most server application deployments—small or large. Itanium-based systems offer alternative system designs and a processor architecture best suited to extremely large database and custom application solutions.

64 bit is a way of manipulating data and if something is currently 16 bit there is no way for you to upgrade them to 64. That is the job of the author of the product. You will have to contact them.

    Mushroom Man, thank you for the prompt reply and checking your CD and install folder.  My apologies for not responding sooner, but I found the thread notice in my spam folder today.  I am located in the U.S. The referenced files were mentioned in another forum by a user with the same issue circa 2004...long dead thread.  Earlier today I located the following link for legacy Quicken patches, alas the patches are Quicken2000-Present.  No Quicken98 patches - of course.

    Those files aren't in my quicken folder or on the CD. You must have an even later version. What country are you in?

    This thread has been very helpful.  I am reinstalling Q98 Deluxe Release 1, due to a self-inflicted data disaster, but I can not locate the Quicken 98 patch files needed to update to the final version Q98 Deluxe Release 4.  The needed files are:

    Quicken 98 Patches

    QWPATCH.EXE

    R2deluxe.dll

    R3deluxe.dll

    R4deluxe.dll

    I have called and emailed Intuit & checked the Internet Wayback Machine for any serendipitous active legacy links - all to no avail. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi again,

    Just thought that you would like to know that I have now managed to make Quicken98 run 'successfully' on the Technical Preview of Windows 10.

    Everything seems to work as it did for me on Windows 7. The main key to success was to (i) copy all the files from the successful installation on Win7 and (ii) use the compatibility troubleshooter in Win10 to set the correct mode of operation (WIN7 was the most effective for me). Printing also works on a network printer. My only outstanding issue is that when Quicken opens initially, the screen is blank except for the menu bar at the top. However, if I click anywhere on the screen a line of the page is then visible. I then select another view, say 'portfolio' and then everything is then displayed successfully thereafter. Will still work on this to attempt to resolve.
