Red X on system tray connection icon even though I am connected to the Internet. OS is Win 7 64 bit, how do I correct this.

All you actually had to do and I know this is a late late reply but its just in the case of letting you know how easy it really was to fix this issue what you should have done was turn the internet system icon off and back on that's what fixed this issue for me....

Try this. It worked for me.

I finally removed the security from my network and the network status now shows me as connected. The red X is gone. It seems that Windows 7 does not support WPA2-PSK. I cannot imagine that is the case. Any ideas as to why, as installed on my PC, it does not have an option for WPA2-PSK? As I said, the hardware is supported and previously worked with XP.

    Hey N1ck_H,

    I am facing this issue in Windows server 2008 R2.

    I followed above steps 4-5 times and rebooted the server.

    But still facing the same issue.

    After killing the explorer.exe, keys are generating automatically!

    Please suggest me why it is happening?

    I was posting here several times and looked up and found all my posts deleted!

    Anyway, my IPv6 is Limited and that's why I got the Red X. I need to upgrade my cable modem & router to DOCSIS 3.0 standards and maybe my ISP might be DOCSIS 3.0 compliant by now.

    This solution worked for me. Thank you!

    When you delete the registry value data for PastIconsStream, you have to make sure the field still contains 64-bits worth of data by replacing deleted values with at least one row of 00s. Some of the other data fields require a minimum byte field of 00. Open registry editor by clicking on start menu and typing in "regedit". Edit value data field by right clicking on key name and selecting "modify".
