How to play FLAC file with Windows Media Player 12

Is there any way to play Flac files with Windows Media Player 12?  A hefty percentage of my music library is FLAC.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Flac extension is not a supported file type of Windows Media Player. You may however user your favorite search engine to search for a solution that may convert the file to a Windows Media Player supported file type.

    May I tell you that many DirectShow filters and WMP plugins have been developed that allow the Windows Media Player to support OGG and FLAC.

    And, the K-Lite Codec Pack has decoders for FLAC that work in WMP.

    http://xiph.org/dshow/downloads this link here worked for me running a 64 bit system under windows7. Under binaries click link and then run, that is all i did then minimized this web page opened windows media player and the player played my flac mucic files..Thank you so much for the link..

    indeed it's exactly the other way around:

    get the codec from http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/01/playing-flac-files-in-media-center.html and install MadFLAC (read text file first)

    and index and tag the files with the utility from sourceforge at

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/wmptagext/ it's called WindowsMediaPlayer Tag Extension

    I got confused by this also, but worked it out in the end.

    This method works well and is easy to follow.

    Once installed everything works as normal and WMPlayer plays the files.

    Make sure to activate the plugin from within MediaPlayer Tools>Plugins first though
