How to play FLAC file with Windows Media Player 12

Is there any way to play Flac files with Windows Media Player 12?  A hefty percentage of my music library is FLAC.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Flac extension is not a supported file type of Windows Media Player. You may however user your favorite search engine to search for a solution that may convert the file to a Windows Media Player supported file type.

    There is a lossless wma format that still offers compression just like FLAC.  No, I'm not kidding you.

    Actuall there is a way let me see what it was I installed, I think it was a codec but can't remember which one I'll check my other machine that it's on..  I play many different formats in WMP on windows 10, 7 and XP boxes.

    After checking, not sure which OS your using, but in Windows 10 media player,,,,, I turned off Groove..

    Right click a FLAC file, choose open with Window Media Player, Click the Always open this type file with it if you don't want to do it every time you play a FLAC file,  bam ! It should play.

    Be sure you go into your audio cards properties and choose a higher resolution for best... and it will depend on what res the FLAC was saved in.... But I would choose a bit higher than 16 bit, something like  2channel 24bit 96000Hz studio quality. It may also depend on what your sound card can do as well.
