Is there any way to play Flac files with Windows Media Player 12?  A hefty percentage of my music library is FLAC.

Thanks!

Lloyd

Hello L Goldfine,

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Flac extension is not a supported file type of Windows Media Player. You may however user your favorite search engine to search for a solution that may convert the file to a Windows Media Player supported file type.

For more information on Windows Media Player supported file types you may also view the following link:

Information about the Multimedia file types that Windows Media Player supports

I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you,

Mary

I agree that this is ridiculous.  Please, if you think Microsoft products are the coolest and classiest in the world, then include support for FLAC.  There is currently no other audio standard that is comparably better, and it is slowly becoming a de-facto standard to store complete audio content in flac rather than in WAV because of WAV's lack of support for ID3 tags and the simplicity of it.  The project would be so resource-basic, it wouldn't set Microsoft's budget back.  It would be silly and short-sighted for Microsoft to wait until the last second, or after the threshing of demand, to support FLAC.

Microsoft won't answer with anything that is not a Microsoft product.  There are lots of answers to get WMP to play flac...the one I use is madFlac..works fine.  After downloading for free, extract all files and install.  Works just fine.
