How to play FLAC file with Windows Media Player 12

Is there any way to play Flac files with Windows Media Player 12?  A hefty percentage of my music library is FLAC.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Flac extension is not a supported file type of Windows Media Player. You may however user your favorite search engine to search for a solution that may convert the file to a Windows Media Player supported file type.

    leefrost, Darney53, I have a bit of a concern here...

    I am almost certain that .avi/xvid movie files played in my WMP prior to my installing the shark007 codecs.

    In fact, I am positive that I always had the option of playing my xvid's movie files in WMP and/or any of my media players.

    Now, this morning, I am finding out that none of them will play in my WMP :(

    What happened?

    I can, of course, open them in any of my other movie players, so its  not really an issue. Just bothering me a bit.

    Can you guys play xvid/avi movies in your WMP?  

    All of my xvid's are still asscociated with the wmp icon, so Im not sure what happened.

    True to that leefrost. I had never heard of 007Shark until your mention in this forum, even though I had been searching for something that would allow me to play lossless audio besides wav in Windows Media Player. Because I am still learning about codecs and after fumbling with plugins, when I found K-lite and it works well for me. I stop looking. But since I have been enlightened about other options for codecs I have been reading more. It seems that from my reading there are avent fans of 007Shark, but equally as much as K-lite. But having the options gives more choice for the user and there level of how to use; "understanding". I have others players on my computer. But none are better than Windows Media Player. I am able to play all lossless audio I choose; MKV, M2TS video and so on. I still would not say that 007Shark is the best, (I leave to the user). But agree that it will accomplish what it is designed for without compatibility problems. Thanks again for the pull up.

    I just want to thank Darney and leefrost for helping me with this codec issue, and helping me figure out what I needed to do to get my flac files  and mkv files to play in my Windows Media Player 11.

    I went ahead and installed the 007Shark pak from the link provided by you guys, and I am very happy I did this.

    Not only can I now play my .mkv movie files in my WMP 11, I can also play my FLAC... and any other audio or video files I have on my computer, on any of the media players I have on my computer.

    007Shark is used a lot by enthusiasts, but most people have never heard of it and can get a little one-eyed about K-lite. It's not their fault that it is probably the only "codec pack" they have ever heard off : )

    There is some exceptional software out there for all sorts of tasks and not bundled with "surprises" you don't want either. The very best is not always the "most used".
