Device Drive Software not sucessfully installed -Code 39- Optiarc DVD +-RW AD 7580A ATA Device

Need Help !

Recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop using Vista operating system.

The DVD +-RW Device was working but has recently failed.

The Device Manager locates the Driver which is Optiarc DVD +-RW AD 7580A ATA Device

The Device Manager has a (-) marker which tells me the driver is not working.

I tried to update this driver but message received is "most recent driver already installed".

I opted to uninstall driver and restarted system.

Upon restart, system attemped to reinstall driver for my CD Rom.

I then received message " Drive device software was not sucessfully installed".

Also received message "Wndows cannot load the device for this hardware. Code 39"

At present my CD Rom device will not work.

I would appreciate anyone who has a solution to this problem.

Did you recently install some new burner software? Several of the burner installs can cause error 39. You sould rightclick this link to another Answers thread about removing the "Upper Filters" and "Lower Filters"entries. You can remove those by creating the CMD file I will paste in below, created by William Keener.

  1. Carefully copy, and then paste the following three commands into Notepad:

reg export HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\ %userprofile%\desktop\CDFiltersBackup.reg

reg delete HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\ /v UpperFilters /f
reg delete HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\ /v LowerFilters /f

  1. Save the file on your desktop as DeleteCDFilters.cmd.
  2. Right-click the DeleteCDFilters.cmd file on your desktop, and then click Run as administrator.

Note After you run this script, any programs that installed custom CD/DVD filter drivers may not be able to use your CD/DVD until your reinstall those programs. If the command script doesn't resolve the problem, you can simply restore your custom CD/DVD Filter drivers by double-clicking the CDFiltersBackup.reg that the command script exports to your desktop.

    Thank You Mark. I installed three new HP COMPAQ dx2400 computers this weekend for a company and all three ended up with CD/DVD problem, code 39, device drivers failed to install.  All 3 came wth XP installed but had the optional Vista Business CD. Did a clean install of Vista. Had to download from HP and install the updated Vista drivers for the card reader, on-board display, audio, LAN and chipset. Then I removed the WINDOWS OLD folder. After installing MS Office and hundreds of updates the DVD problem started on all three computers.  No DVD burner software program was ever installed. I feel it was one of the Windows updates or the removal of the Windows Old folder.  The HP burner was HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GH15L ATA Device. Your sulotion worked great, for the second time. (Had to use it several years ago for a different customer.)

    I want to thank you. I was pulling my hair out (well figuratively) after updating from Vista Premium to Ultimate. I solved most of my problems by going to the vendor's site and downloading drivers and software updates, but could not get the CD/DVD to function. I crossed my fingers, held my breath and tried your fix. It worked! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Recently purchased a dv4 model HP laptop from Best Buy with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  Out of box DVD drive read fine and I was able to create image discs.  After installing (auto) updates it stopped reading the drive despite the appropriate driver being installed.  I tried all kinds of creative ways to get it working - even used a lightscribe utility but it couldn't even recognize the drive.

    Did as Mark suggested.  Copied/pasted commands into notepad.  Saved the file as he instructed. Right clicked to run as administrator.  Restarted my computer and it is reading the DVD drive again.  Thanks Mark!
