As the title says, I want to have my speakers and my HDMI to play at the same time from the same application, I've only been able to select one OR the other as default device: If I: Select speker as default device Start playing something (and can of course hear it from the speakers) Select HDMI as default device Then: Speakers stop playing HDMI starts playing I just want both to be playing together. It took some time searching around but I finally managed to find an answer by myself, I'm posting the solution here in case anyone has a similar issue: Open Sound panel Select Speakers as the default playback device Go to the "Recording" tab Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices" A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear Right click on the new device and click "Enable" Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device" Double click on the new device to open the Properties window Go to the "Listen" tab Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list And you're done, the drawback is that you won't have a microphone selected as default recording device, but for what concerns me I couldn't care less.

Thanks for this. Hated that I had to manually change from speakers to S/PDIF as the default every time I plugged my laptop into my TV to watch a movie....seems stupid to have to. Will see if this works next time I try. If it does, thanks in advance.

Thanks capitano666. I have just run a 75 ft HDMI cable from my PC to my Denon 4308 in the hope of watching everything on my PC through my Hi-Fi set-up. Unfortunately I experienced the same issues as you with not being able to get sound simultaneously from my PC speakers as well as my HDMI connection. In the end I had to download the latest driver from Realtek which then gave me the option to select "stereo mix" (was previously not an option) and then follow the rest of your instructions. I also had to re-open Sound Panel, right click on the device "Realtek Digital Output" > Properties > Advanced and select any of the 96000Hz + options. For some reason any of the options below 96000 Hz resulted in intermittent sound from my Denon. Thanks again.
