Dual Monitor blacks out the second monitor in locked mode

I agree with VDCENG.

I would love to see this as an option that you could turn on with registry value.  That way it continues to behave the same way unless you explicitly want the background to show on both monitors.

My company changes the logon background screen every month with inspiration pictures and quotes.  It would look at lot nice if it showed on both monitors.  My company is 100% dual or more monitors.

I've been in IT for over 15 years, and everyone here is stating possible business cases which are fine, but guess the f_c_ what? I want to do this on my personal PC just because it looks cool and that should be enough.

And I do keep my system up and locked while I'm around and can see it, someone earlier commented as if the computer is never in that state??

I paid for the computer and the OS, Win 7 Ultimate. Ultimate my _ss, I'm not complaining about a work computer that I don't own, I'm talking about my computer and windows 7 Ultimate system that was very expensive out of my own pocket.

The people who don't even understand the problem, well, I'm amazed and yes 3rd party software does cool things but none of them fix this problem, I've checked many.

They do absolutely everything else but fix this problem.

The point is it was a functionality that existed and was completely removed.  I can't say how far your could go with it on older versions but I know both screens would show the image (never tried different images).

How about the simple fact that you paid for a license to what is advertised as the absolute best client computer OS out there and it's 2011 for crying out loud, really this is too complicated??

Wireless power is coming out next year, and our cells will be replaced with nanabots, but this is just too hard to fix right? :)

Shut your mouth. It's not an option to go back to XP, Windows 7 is what the new PCs are made for and comes with the hardware, if it's gaming PC what else can you run??  There is no choice.

who is the idiot that said something like "this didn't exist in other versions of windows, please use your friendly web browser to find a 3rd party app", yeah they're just growing off trees aren't they.

Like I said, the 3rd party apps do all kinds of cool stuff but they don't fix this specific problem, and I've used all the ones mentioned in this thread plus others.

Someone said Apple focuses on stuff better, that's not true, they do they same thing and I can prove it (factual proof).

But why doesn't MS just fix this in a SP release? 

It's not a 5 minute code solution (someone said that earlier) and I know that person didn't literally mean 5 minutes but I don't think they realize this would actually take longer than 5 weeks.

We are talking all the coding and then an insane amount of testing, that is what takes the longest, so it's isn't like writing a javascript or perl file, it's kind of a big thing, but can totally be fixed.

The Microsoft Question Answering Team that are answering these posts but obviously not experienced, just stop trying and escalate the question to the software engineers, okay. 

And please don't say this was by design for security, the mouse works on that other screen, it's not secure, the screen is active and working, just black for some reason.

Your an idiot. Just because it does not add any value to the work place does not mean it does not have its place.

With my employer we use a background that contains system information and details. so it is very important to be able to see this when the system is locked.

I'm honestly at a complete loss that anyone, and I mean anyone out there, is that bothered by this missing functionality.  I just ran in to this issue today, with a new employee that just started working for us.  She says, "It worked that way at my last job with WindowsXP.  That's what I want on my Windows7 box."  Really?  Are you kidding me??  Total waste of time and adds nothing relevant to this or any persons job responsibilities when their machine is locked & they're away from their computer.

I'm shocked at the number of replies to this & similar posts.  The number of people that are totally bothered by this is unbelievable.  Frankly surprised no one's suggested dumping Windows for MAC, but it looks like just finding the lock feature on a MAC may be just as hard (go figure).

My answer:  give it up & move on to something that actually matters.

This is mega annoying for what is probably a 5min programming job to fix.

Consider a classroom/presentation setup. When a projector (or large TV) is connected to the '2nd monitor' in extend mode - and that machine is locked/logged off once finished, the projector/TV then displays a blank picture and of course people then forget to turn them off - since they can't see anything obvious displayed.

With the standard OEM wallpaper shown on both outputs - this wouldn't be a problem.
