I am using Windows 7  and getting an error Code

WerFault.exe - Application Error

The Instruction at 0xfcf9c9fe reference memory at 0x00000001. The memory could not be written. Click to terminate program.

How do I fix this?

The werfault.exe is used for Windows Error Reporting. It is a feature that allows Microsoft to track and address errors relating to the operating system, Windows features, and applications. It gives you the option to send data about errors to Microsoft and to receive information about solutions.

You can access settings for Windows Error Reporting here: Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > Change settings > Advanced settings

Try turning it off temporarily and see if this will fix the problem.

As a temporarily solution you can turn off error reporting service: press Win+R, type services.msc than find Windows Error Reporting service in the services list, right-click on it -> click Properties ->  open "Startup type" list and select "Disabled" -> press OK.

Then check and see if you are still getting the werfault.exe error on opening programs.

Since you have just installed Windows 7, please verify you have updated all of your device drivers to a Windows 7 version. If you cannot do so in normal mode, then go to safe mode and verify in device manager.

    I fix the problem of werfault.exe that pop-up when I was opening .PDF file. I don't really know how I did it, but were are the two things I did and after that, .pdf file were no longer an issue with werfault.exe.

    I updated my ATI Radeon old video card.

    I scan my computer with Emisoft Anti-Malware

    If that can help anyone I will be happy.

    I know that this is a very old post but I'm having this same problem when updating to windows 10. I can't do anything to fix it because all I have is a black screen. Is there any other way to fix?

    i found the answer to your problem it was a site virus.   go to os hard drive, then go to user, click the user profile name you are signed into, then click on appdata [ if you dont see appdata goto show hidden files in your folder settings ] once your in appdata goto roaming then click on microsoft then click on windows then click on start menu then click on programs then click on start up.   inside the folder start up is where you will see about 9,120 exe files, delete all of them.

    -example-

    computer / local disk(c) / users / (whatever your user name is) /appdata / roaming / microsoft / windows / start menu / programs / start up -----erase all 9,120 exe files.        YOUR WELCOME

    THE REASON WHY WHEN YOU START WINDOWS ALL THE ERRORS POP UP IT IS BECUASE THE VIRUS IS TRYING TO START UP ALL THE FILES IT STORED IN THE FOLDER I SHOWED YOU WHERE TO DELETE.   THIS VIRUS CAME FROM A TORRENT DOWNLOAD SITE.

    I am having the exact same problem with Adobe.  Whenever I open a PDF document the werfault error rares it's nasty head.  The process window in control panel shows hundreds of processes running.  I can delete them by doing a mass exit command recommended above, but that is just temporary.  I have removed and reloaded Adobe a couple of times .  No help.  I now have a useful computer unless I run Adobe .  Any suggestions out there?

    UPDATE.....disregard the above post.  The damn error has returned and won't go away.  Going to reinstall OS, unless someone can please help.  The error occurs only when I try to open up a PDF with Reader....can't view any PDF!
