How do I know what the CIFS sign is

Greetings! I just bought one of those networkable blu ray players... I have access to my portable network drive and thus are able to watch downloaded movies... Could you define  how to log in to my  network ... the bluray player asks for a "cifs sign in" in order to stream from my laptop... In lamen terms... I dont know what would the CIFS siign in name would be... How do I know what it is? I cant figure out what or where it will be...

·         Who is the manufacturer of the Blu-ray device?

Common Internet File System (CIFS), a protocol that defines a standard for remote file access using millions of computers at a time. With CIFS, users with different platforms and computers can share files without having to install new software.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for CIFS sign in details, also look for the CIFS information from the user manual.

    Hi folks,

    To all the owners of LG-BD570 Blu-ray player who are having issues accessing windows 7 native shares via CFS without using Nero Media Home or Windows Media Center( Which are DLNA enabled), here is the solution after spending sleepless nights in troubleshooting this.

    1. Make Sure  you have these network Settings:

    • Network and sharing settings:
    • Press start menu and go to your Control Panel.
    • Open your Network and Sharing Center.
    • Click on the right on Change advanced sharing settings.
    • Press the arrow at the right to hide your Home or Work profile.
    • Then Press the arrow at the right to show your Public profile.
    • Make the following changes:
      • Turn on network discovery.
      • Turn on file and printer sharing.
      • Turn off Public folder sharing.
      • Turn off password protected sharing

    2. Uninstall Windows Live Sign in assistant, windows live mesh and any other windows live products( This is the most important part)

    3. Share the folder and make sure in the permissions Everyone is added with Read access

    4. Restart the PC

    5. Turn on LG BD-570 and click on Home Link. At this point you will see a Desktop. Click on the desktop and CIFS login prompt will show up.

    6. In this login screen, enter the same user id and password you use to login to the PC.

    I bought this LG BD570 player and having issues connecting via CIFS to Windows 7 native shares. If I share a folder on win XP machine, I am able to see the shares. This tells me that, Blu-ray does not have any issues. I suspect it is some configuration issue in windows 7, which I am unable to figure out. I tried all the options mentioned on this thread and still no luck on connecting to windows 7 shares from LG-BD570. I spoke with LG Customer Care and could not get an appropriate answer  so far. If I turn on the DLNA server like Nero Media Home, I am able to see the shared folders via Nero on the device. This troubleshooting process is killing me. 

    Anyone has any other thoughts.. Please help..

    this is almost true for me... even if your user name has caps in it showing on your computer info do not put caps on while typing it into the bluray player. omg took too long to figure this out

    This worked for me, I just entered my usual Windows login ID and password into the CIFS entry screen and my shared folders showed up.
