Can I delete the system reserved partition from 100MB

Is there a possibility to install windows 7 (clean install) without making a extra (hidden) partition "system reserved" from 100mb?

or how can I delete this partition after install ?

Why is it for?

I have the meaning that this slows down my hard drive a little ?

Hi Johan G,

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7 .

The 100MB partition is a system partition and contains boot files. Disk Manager will not allow you to remove this partition because removing this partition could cause the system to not boot.

    I just did a clean Win7 Ultimate on a new OCZ Vertex 3 120G, and also notice this new "System Reserved" 100Mb partition. In my case, it's been assigned a "(F:)"

    Before installaton of the SSD, I was running two 300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0, which I had simply unpowered during my SSD setup. I repowered after Win7 installation, did a quick formate, and now I load all my games and programs on it to save space on the SSD. It's been assigned as the "(E:)" Drive.

    Is the (F:) partition part of the SSD (C:) drive? The SSD shows up as 111GB in system properties.

    Reading some installation info on the OCZ website, they say that Win7 "will create a hidden 100MB system partition with boot/recovery files; Windows likes to install on a "raw" un-formatted space. Boot/Recovery files are installed in the C:\ partition in a hidden folder. Warning: If other drives are attached at the same time, Windows "might" install the hidden partition there."

    Since the SSD was not "Formatted" prior to my installation of Win7, this would seem to make sense. I guess if I had hooked up the SSD to my prior Win7 I could have gone in an Formatted the drive, but I think the instructions said it was not necessary.

    Like most issues with new hardware/software, seems like a ton of conflicting info out there.

    Yes you can delete this partition. I used a disk partition tool name “Acronis Disk Director” to deleted that 100MB partition and merge that free un-partitioned space with the main “C Drive” making it all one drive. Once that was done I used my windows disk to repair my install, it boots and run just fine.….DONT let Microsoft fool you, this CAN and HAS been done ;)

    As far as it slowing down your hard drive, im not really sure. I just wanted my windows all one drive, I wasn’t really conserved with speed.
