Can I delete the system reserved partition from 100MB

Is there a possibility to install windows 7 (clean install) without making a extra (hidden) partition "system reserved" from 100mb?

or how can I delete this partition after install ?

Why is it for?

I have the meaning that this slows down my hard drive a little ?

Hi Johan G,

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7 .

The 100MB partition is a system partition and contains boot files. Disk Manager will not allow you to remove this partition because removing this partition could cause the system to not boot.

    To be clear, the person asked about adding a "new hard drive," NOT "a new, FIXED hard drive."

    So, yes, go get an $80, 1TB USB external HD. Power it up, hook up the USB cable; DONE.

    AND, I definitely have problems with these cr@ppy statements about, "If you have multiple hard drives, remove all of them except the one to which you are installing the o/s."

    That is WASTEFUL, time-consuming and unnecessary. I have never had any problems having multiple hard drives in the system when installing a new o/s.

    And it NEVER should be necessary to "jump through such hoops;" i.e., 'removing' any additional hard drives. Does that include external USB drives? Thumb drives? Seriously, MOST OF THE TIME, people will be installing more and more from thumb and external USB drives.

    I know that I do my Windows Server 2008 R2 installs from thumb drive.  ANY good disk management utility, including DELL and HP raid utilities (Open Manage, for example), DO NOT CARE if you have a zillion hard drives in your system or in your RAID enclosure

    • as long as you partition them to your own purposes.

    And I think, to answer your question, that installing the boot code on the same partition as the o/s is okay - IF I understand correctly - i.e., you don't need a separate partition just to act as a 'boot manager,' but I could be wrong; i.e., if you 'chose' to put the boot code on C: [and] the o/s on C:, then won't it use the same 'boot manager' features as if you had the separate 100MB partition?

    I found a work around the need for the 100MB partition, by accident.

    Bare with me for a second. :) I bought a laptop and made an image of the entire drive. I then upgraded to a different drive. I first formatted the new drive into 1 big NTFS partition via a Linux Live CD. Then rebooted (with my Image Recovery DVD in the laptop) , plugged in the USB drive that houses the 35GB image and waited for the install to finish.

    35min later, rebooted and got a error stating the boot loader was missing. Great. I immediately knew why; the 100MB partition was not there. So, instead of tearing the drive apart and reloading the image again I thought, I'll do a Repair from the Windows Recovery DVDs I made. Booted up the Disk 1 and guess what ...no repair option.

    This is why I despise Real Windows DVDs not coming with systems anymore. Vendors make their own and leave out options!

    Luckily, I have an OEM Windows 7 Pro DVD from my custom made system, I loaded that, and did a Repair which took 2 secs to complete. Rebooted and Tada! Win7 loaded without a hitch. Checked Disk Management and no 100MB partition exists.

    100MB is nothing these days I know but, Win7 runs fine without it.

    hi friend can u help me to this

     actually i am using linux and window 7 both by fault  i deleted the window 7 system reserve files

    when using linux now when i rebooting the window 7  its not boot mention that wxyz file is missing how can i solve this problem with out re install it . if u know mail me on ******@gmail.com .
