How to disable auto arrange in Windows 7 Explorer?

Why does Microsoft have to decide how I want my personal stuff organized?I want them organized the way I want!We wouldnt pay 300 for someone to take decision for us.I wonder if you are going to change the Pc acronym for Personal Computer to IBTMN-C aka I belong to Microsoft now computer.I want my folders arranged the way I like.I want to change the row the way i feel like to everyday.Just fix it.What made you remove this??Which advisor told you it is not needed?Who doesnt use this feature??Windows is based on manual arrange.Nice Idea WELL DONE

Welcome to Microsoft Answers!

As this is by design of the Windows 7 Operating system, we cannot disable the Auto arrange.

The change in Windows 7 is by design however, if this is something you would like this feature reinstated, please submit your suggestion to:

    MICROSOFT, REINSTATE THE ABILITY TO "DISSABLE AUTO ARRANGE" IN WINDOWS 7!!!!!

    I agree with all of you!!  I am soooooo **ssed off that I can’t move my folders and pictures where I want to!  I work with pictures at my job and I always need to highlight many different folders at once and move them off to the side for editing, or whatever and I can’t do it! 

    There are also many, many reasons I use this feature at home and now I can’t!  I build computers for people on the side and build about 50-75 pc's a year, and I can tell you that I have not built a pc yet with windows 7 because of this missing feature!  People always ask me "Do you recommend Windows 7"? or "How is Windows 7"?  I always reply with the same words, don’t buy it unless you don’t care about moving your pictures of your family where you want them to.  All my customers simply cannot believe that Microsoft would remove such a very important feature! 

    If Microsoft's excuse to removing this feature is because "not enough people used it" is a bunch of LIES!  They KNOW that most all windows users use this function, but it was simply causing there new operating system to become unstable.  And instead of working hard to find a fix for it, they just made up some excuse as to why they removed it, and then they could ship Windows 7 out to oem's and retail customers on the forecasted release date.

    This is the year 2010, and as a Windows user, the ability to not be able to move a file where I want to is just crazy!  My gosh, you could do this in Windows 3.1 !!!!!!

    Microsoft, listen to your customers, if Windows 7's design was inspired by customers and users then LISTEN AGAIN!  We want, and very much need this feature back and I can assure you that we won’t stop complaining until we get it!  Or, if you wait too long, people will just get sick of waiting and go buy a Mac.  At least you can have that feature on a Mac.  I have already seen tons of post’s where people have already switched to a Mac because of just this one little feature that you don’t think is important!  How many customers are you prepared to lose?????

    I for one will not upgrade the 50+ computers here at our workplace to Windows 7 until this issue is taken care of, nor will I recommend it to anyone in any way, shape or form.

    Please Microsoft...we all need to disable the auto arrage in windows 7.  Provide us a solution ASAP

    We need the problem fixed very quickly.

    i just found out about this

    my laptop died with xp in it

    and now i have windows 7

    and i just found today about this

    I am SO frustrated and angry!!!! 

    Have the same problem and it's costing me an amazing amount of overtime at work trying to sort out necessary files within a folder to make any sense to a client.

    I've submitted letters to them via the link above, but of course we have no way of knowing they are acknowledging or working on it.

    This is a most ridiculous problem they've created!!!!
