I ended up holding down the “f” key with the volume icon on it . A hash mark appeared on my tool bar. When I click on it, it shows me all of my hidden tool bar icons including volume and I can adjust it from there. Weird and serendipitous, but it works!
I followed all of the steps as prescribed, all the way to View and Refresh Now. Still no volume icon. This is very frustrating.
This did not help. I right clicked on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen and there was no option for "properties". I tried "task bar settings" as an alternative but could not find a solution there. Any other ideas on how to restore the sound icon to my task bar? Thanks.
