Error Code 1-80004005

Error Code 1-80004005 after reinstalling FSX on Vista. Activation form doesn't load therefore, there's no way to activate it. Observed several discussions on this using Google searches but never found a specific answer. Have tried the FSX installation DVD Repair option but no help there.

Well, I seemed to have fixed this myself. After reading through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481, I saw the mention of uninstalling FSX SP2 but for a different problem. I went to the control panel and under programs and features I found that it didn't show the FSX program nor SP1 but did show FSX SP2. So I uninstalled SP2. After that and just for the heck of it I thought I would try to fire up FSX and viola! the first thing that appeared was the activation form that I was unable to get earlier. I filled in the key code from my box, was accepted and now I appear to be running OK. I still haven't reinstalled SP2 yet as I am still flying around and resetting my settings that I had originally.

    I had checked this registry hack before, but when I found "partmgr" (all lower case) there, and only that key, I figured it must be something else. Finally, as a last straw, seeing others noting "PartMgr" with Capital P and M, I changed it and tried again. Wala, up came the activation prompt.

    Obviously this key is case sensitive, which none of the responses noted.

    1. run regedit (Windowskey +R)

    1. Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTRO L\CLASS{4D36E967-

    E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    1. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
    2. Change the value from 0 to PartMgr and/or remove any other settings and then click OK.

    5. Close Registry Editor

    1. Start FSX/Accel and you should get the registration wizard.  I did. Thanks to Vic for the tip!

    I have tried doing these steps without success.  I also find partmgr in non-capitalized letters.  When I change it to PartMgr I get the message: "Cannot edit upper filters: Error writing the value's new contents."  I am running in Windows 10.

    This fix worked for me, I had just reinstalled on a new system and wasn't getting the activation screen after installing Acceleration.

    Thanks,  Anthony Saponaro, I had the same problem,  partmgr was there on it's own,  so I thought this thread and the problem could only be for Flight Simulator X,  and not Acceleration X,  thinking that this "partmgr" was the first install reg for Simulator X.   So what the **** I capitalised my existing partmgr to PartMgr,  and up popped the registration wizard and I inserted the Acceleration X code and it worked.

    I don't know if Jeffery M works for MS I will be shocked if he does, but I am now telepathically sending bad vibes to the Microsoft team that were absolutely hopeless, basically they should have come up with this on day 1,  I have had many problems with computers in the last 40 years and funnily enough never had ANY help from Microsoft and it looks like nothings changed................shame on you!
