blue screen memory management, driver fail

original title: bsod, blue screen of death, memory management, driver fail

I have just built a new PC, by ordering everything off scan.org.uk. Ever since I have first loaded up the PC it has frequently crashed on start-up. The desktop will show, then either a tone will play through the speakers and it will blue screen, or a box will come up informing me that a program has crashed (ipoint.exe, ccc.exe and others). The most common bsod is memory management, but there have been others. The computer ONLY crashes on start-up, and never when it has successfully loaded up. This problem does not appear every time I boot up, but it is still really annoying. Sometimes, after crashing, windows says it cannot restart and goes into start-up repair, this restores windows and then runs chkdisk. Sometime, but rarely, chkdisk will remove 2 or 3 registry keys and replace them. Please help, this is SO annoying.

It did what it had to do and then said "Windows tesource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details can be found at CBS.log"

I found the log, but it was not helpful at all. If it would be useful jsut ask me to upload it.

Upload the CBS.log to your SkyDrive.

    hi guys

after trawling through command line i found a command that could verify the windows file.

It did what it had to do and then said "Windows tesource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details can be found at CBS.log"

I found the log, but it was not helpful at all. If it would be useful jsut ask me to upload it.

So does my problem sound like it could just be caused by a corruption in windows? I am thinking about trying a repair install today, but would be happier doing it if it was more likely to solve the problem.

I had several of the problems you have listed, with the memory here is what I did to correct the problem and you can try it:

    1. take all memory sticks out and leave one in, restart computer, if no error, that memory stick is good
    2. take that good one out and replace it with one of the others, restart, no errors(?), then that one is good as well
    3. repeat above with remaining memory sticks until you have isolated the bad one with error screens. If none give you errors, then as mentioned above may possible be compatibility issue, therefore:
    4. Do #1 above but instead of one at a time do two at a time too see where you get errors. repeat this step until you can figure out which two dont work good together, but keep in mind it may also be that all three dont work, so work that into your trial and error as well. :D

I did the first two and was able to isolate which memory stick was bad, I took it out and was able to restore my computer, and now  it works just fine. I hope this helps.

    PassMarks burn in test: http://www.passmark.com/

The Burnin test and their benchmark test both give a good workout of all the major parts of Windows.

Just change the setting to test only memory and 2D /3D graphics. The free version is limited to a max of 15 minutes.
