Devices and Printers Dialog Box Empty

When I open my "Devices and Printers" dialog box, it is empty; nothing shows up and the item listing says "0 items".

The devices and printers showed up in the Devices and Printers dialog box earlier, but now are gone from the dialog box. However, they are still in the system as everything seems to work. The problem comes with trying to set the preferences for any of the devices or printers since they can't be seen or accessed.

Anyone got any ideas of how to get the devices and printers to show up again?

Devices and printers will show one device when you have configured multiple printers for the same device. There is a fly out menu to get to all the other printers on the device. Use the spooler teams UI, printmanagement.msc to view all local printers on Pro and Ultimate.

The old printers folder can be launched if you are running Home versions.

Open a command prompt and paste this in.

I am having the same problem. I did a clean install from Vista and the computer has worked fine for weeks. Today, my devices and printer window is empty. I can still print from some applications, but Windows Live Mail gives me an error when I select print:

'an error has occurred in the script on this page'

By the way, no new hardware has been installed recently.

I found another post that solved my problem. I was about to give up and re-install Windows 7, but tried this and it worked.

Exact that is the problem. You never know, when will it happen again. Yesterday 4 of 5 identical (same hardware and cloned from PC1) PCs ran without error. The day before two other PCs showed also an empty D+P window. Only PC1´s window was empty. I tried reregistering ie8 dll´s, no success. I installed the atheros NIC driver from ASUS, no success. Then I installed the INTEL chipset driver and after the reboot the window was filled again. Some reboots later the window was empty again. When I got the window filled again, I changed the driver of the T1100 to the win7-64 driver for the designjet 500 plus that is available on the HP site. I´ll watch it.

ENRICO1970: I also run AVG 9 network edition and tried to uninstall. On one PC it worked on another it didn´t. So I installed it again.

PAULOMIRANDA: What driver for the T1100 do you use? Unfortunatly Win7 doesn´t have any HP plotter driver by itself as former windows version had. So you have to use a driver from HP if you want to plot at all. Am I right?

It works, reboot, doesn't works, reboot it works , doesn't works. This is really absurd, makes no sense. I haven't a logic track to follow

I would like to try to uninstall T610 just to try your suggest. But from this morning the D&P is empty and I'm not able to make it works. End of game. I lose, I'm really tired
