Is there a stop to Internet Backgammon cheaters?

I examine three metrics to determine fairness/bias that have nothing to fo with ability. One metric is the ratio of doubles: number of doubles by opponent divided by number of doubles by player. Whether one plays well or badly, if one is consistently getting out rolled in doubles by factors of 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, ... then one is being cheated.

I counted 290 doubles. Every time my opponent rolled a double I recorded a1. Every time I rolled a double I recorded a 0. I got tired of counting at 290. I ended up with only 80 doubles while my opponents had the remaining 210 doubles. A binomial distribution calculator says that the probability of having 80 or fewer doubles is

This is conclusive proof of biased dice. It is conclusive proof of cheating. An interesting arithmetic problem is computing the number of centuries it would take with constant play so that this would have even a 1 percent chance of happening once.

Microsoft could give a flying banana about this problem.

Just look how many complaints are posted here, and NOTHING is done.

If there is no money in it for them, they could care less. To the cheaters it's a big joke.

All you can do is let them fight you till close to the end of the game then split. Don't give them the win, they are going to cheat you out of it anyway.

These people are cheating because it a joke. It's not Gammon to them it's a whole other game.

It's the game of setting traps and watching the opponent try to get out of them. It's making sure you are never the aggressor no matter how good a player you are, you are always on the defensive.

I still play these idiots and they have all the power to control the die but I still kick their butts, but when I get close to winning they reach for the doubles one after the other like some coward. It's funny as heck to see them move so fast when your close to busting them. Typical COWARDS.

These people could not play a straight game of gammon if their life depended on it. They are not intelligent enough.

They often miscount even when they have control of the die.

They use to be very blatant about cheating right up front but must have gotten tired of people ditching them.

So,.. now they play a straight game up front, sometimes moving slow and trying to make you think they are a real beginner just to keep you in the game.

Sometimes they will change the numbers on your die, they can do that. When that happens I'm out of there.

When it's time to rap the game up with your stones in the home pen, they start using the numbers they can control, both yours and theirs.

Ever notice when your heading home you will get 1-2 time and time again to slow you down. They think your stupid and don't notice.

If your set up to good to close out the game they start reaching for the doubles.

When that happens I ditch.

I could give a good ka-hoot about a score. I play for the skill of it.

Their win is not a win it's a stolen win. If that is what plows their skirt up so be it. Maybe they think they can take their wins to the bank.

You have to keep in mind these people are COWARDS, and could not play a straight game if they had to, because most people who know the game would kick the living s#&t out of them.

It is possible you're  all are seeing a pattern in chaos.

This is the basis of the same mathimatical method used to generate a virtual landscape with seemly endless terrain variation.

Regarding you comments on tampering with the outcome, it certainly wouldn't be out of the question.  After all, the numbers are generated from a timer based on the CPU's clock cycle.     From the speed of the system response it does look like it is using the individual client PC's clock to do this, thus making it entirely possible.

More to the point,  I pitty the people that would even bother to program the hack and endlessly 

use it.    They don't have anything more constructive to do than to ruin what can be a plesant game?

I also agree there are alot of just plain poor sports out there.  One shouldn't quit just because your losing.  Stay with it or resign.  Accept a resignation when given.  And if you win because you had a streak of lucky rolls be a good sport and say so.  Your not playing for money so who care's about stats.    I've had just as much fun losing as winning.   Remember, It's just a game.

I'm done with Microsoft. To echo previous posters - there is NO WAY that anybody can roll 65 (as their first two rolls), then follow up with 33, 31, and a 42. After seeing that, I just quit - I mean, what's the point? You just don't see those kind of rolls in a real game. I love backgammon - but not enough to tolerate that kind of blatant cheating. Off to find something else to do. Maybe I'll teach my kids how to play...
