"Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup."

I have a laptop and a desktop which were both participaing in a Homegroup.  It stopped working, so I tried to "leave the Homegroup" from both machines, intending to recreate it.  By the way, standard networking and file sharing is still working.  The desktop allowed me to leave the Homegroup, but I receive the "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup" message on the laptop.  I have run the network and homegroup troubleshooters numerous times on both machines.  I have also researched and tried everything I could find on the web, with no sucess.  Please tell me how I can reset the Homegroup settings on my laptop.

Here is a solution that might work.  It worked for me. 

"Researched the problem and found the solution. A file was corrupted and deleting it got the PNRP service running. The file was recreated correctly when the PNRP service started up. Here's the file for future reference:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking\idstore.sst"

    Being an old DOS guy, I changed the file name (idstore.sst) and rebooted.

    BOTTOM LINE:  It worked.  Thank you.

    Ironically my issue related to having both a LAN & Wireless connection on the one PC. I realised my Homegroup probably stopped working around the same time I activated the wireless (was testing speeds around the home). Lo & behold, I could remove my PC from the homegroup now.

    I killed the homegroup from all my aPC's & started again... new issue LOL

    I have tried all of these and still to no avail.  I noticed Function discovery provider Host under security logon says local system account.  HOWEVER Function discovery resource publication has a security  Log on with a "local service" with a PW.  I have NO clue what the password is and if both services should be the same.  Could this be my problem?

    Had same problem, found out it was because I disabled a certain service in order to "hide" my comp from landlord.

    Make sure Function Discovery Resource Publication is set to Automatic, and start it.

    This is set to automatic on my PC but not running & I can't start it. WTF?
