BigAndyC, Windows 7 simply doesn't support ID3v2.4, so the tags of your music files need to be in the v2.3 format for Explorer/WMP to recognize them.

I have experienced the same problem. I took the suggestions from other people's replies (thanks folks) and installed ID3-TagIT. This is able to read all the MPS files without problem. However, I found that all of the files that Win7 repeatedly gave this error are shown as having Version 2.4 Tags and all of the other files (which Win7 can handle) had version 2.3 tags. So, I wonder if there is a fundamental flaw i Windows 7 in that it cannot handle the 2.4 Tag versions at all? Note that all of the info in my files (artist, album etc) was filled in the 2.4 Tags, but Win7 windows explorer could not show any of these details.

Sorry, just noticed another recent post identifying the same Tag 2.4  issue!

I used MP3tag tool to convert the files tag from version 2.4 to version 2.3 and it solved the problem.

    hi

i don't like to install any extra software for changing mp3 tags(my computer is full of such tiny software and i dont like to add any more _________!!).

is it possible to change the tag of such mp3 files with windows 7 like windows XP without any problem and without any extra software?

why windows 7 is not as good as XP in this case? XP can change all the tags without any problem !
