Active directory domain services unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) I can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: Active directory domain services unavailable. I have verified that DNS is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active. I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem. I suspect a registry issue as I have the same problem regardless of what problem I try to print with. I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print. I noticed that these patches are for patches. I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says I do not have the "Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though I do. My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Hi,

Which is the edition of Windows 7 installed on the computer?
Is the computer connected to domain?
Are you able to print on other programs?
Is printing device listed in Devices and Printers list?

We recommend you to try to access the print servers as an administrator. To troubleshoot on the device, try these steps.

Click Start, click Devices and Printers.
Right click on the printer item and click troubleshoot.

Re-installing the adobe program has fixed the print issue on Adobe. Check this link for more information:

I have had the Active directory domain services unavailable message for months whenever I tried to add a printer from Control Panel or Word. However, I just opened Notepad, went to Find Printer and added the printer from there, and I can now print from all programmes.

This illogical procedure worked perfectly for me; on an old Epson printer for which there is no Win7 driver. Prints fine now, using Office 2007 on win7 64bit.

My printer also just suddenly stopped printing and no idea why, but I also received the Active Directory Domain unavailable notice. Since it didn't seem likely the problem was related to Adobe, I tried opening Notepad and adding my one and only printer, and it worked! Thanks!

I tried it through Notepad and unfortunately it did not work. Having tried a multitude of things, and not wanting to use system restore, I uninstalled my Home Premium Edition of Windows 7 and reinstalled. The problem still existed but I could see in my printer properties that there was still no driver so for the umpteenth time I tried another download and he presto everything okay. When I checked the updates the problem seemed to occur after an automatic update of Defender. I have an Epson ESP 3250 all in one printer.

Hi Shariff,

I have windows 7 x64 os. When I have set up my printer, canon MX 700 on network, setup went fine (I am seeing the the printer in the devices window), I am seeing the printer ip address on the router protocols. But, when I am trying to print from office or even notepad, I get the message, "active directory domain service is currently unavailable". Can you please, help
