Active directory domain services unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) I can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: Active directory domain services unavailable.  I have verified that DNS is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active.  I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem.  I suspect a registry issue as I have the same problem regardless of what problem I try to print with.  I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print.  I noticed that these patches are for patches.  I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says I do not have the "Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though I do.  My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Hi,

  1. Which is the edition of Windows 7 installed on the computer?
  2. Is the computer connected to domain?
  3. Are you able to print on other programs?
  4. Is printing device listed in Devices and Printers list?

We recommend you to try to access the print servers as an administrator. To troubleshoot on the device, try these steps.

  1. Click Start, click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right click on the printer item and click troubleshoot.

Re-installing the adobe program has fixed the print issue on Adobe. Check this link for more information:

    I have had the Active directory domain services unavailable message for months whenever I tried to add a printer from Control Panel or Word.  However, I just opened Notepad, went to Find Printer and added the printer from there, and I can now print from all programmes.

    I have similar problems -- I used to be able to print fine and now cannot although other computers on the home network can print. Nor can I see the printer nor other devices on the network.  Changes Ive made have been a whole set of updates and went from Ofc 2003 to Ofc 2007 but that was several months ago.  I do not have Service Pack 1 installed for Windows 7. Any ideas?

    I have had the Active directory domain services unavailable message for months whenever I tried to add a printer from Control Panel or Word.  However, I just opened Notepad, went to Find Printer and added the printer from there, and I can now print from all programmes.

    This illogical procedure worked perfectly for me; on an old Epson printer for which there is no Win7 driver.  Prints fine now, using Office 2007 on win7 64bit.

    I'm having the same problem but with Microsoft Office 2010, specifically Word and Excel do not see any printers installed.  Clicking Add Printer gives the Active Directory Service currently unavailable message. We've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2010.  What else can we do?
