Warner Music CD's sound is distorted on Dell Windows 7 computer

I have a new Dell computer operating on Windows 7. Some cd's will not play or download on Windows Media Player or iTunes as the sound is totally distorted. These same cd's were fine on my old Dell with Windows XP. The cd's also play on Hi Fi's and other computers without any problems. Is this a problem with Windows 7? (all the cd's seem to be produced by Warner Music or their associated companies).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi ASTRA52,

I would suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I would also suggest you to install the latest sound drivers compatible for Windows 7 from the manufacturer’s website.

    Okay, search if you want to, but the problem is not firmware, software or hardware. The problem is the Warner Brother cd you have is copy protected and more than likely a product made for sale and distribution in Europe or something. Check the cd graphics, does it says made in Germany??? Check the upper right hand corner of the jewel case back cover, does it have numbers in bold print starting with 7599 and ending with - 2 with the name of a foreign country underneath? You have been sold a product that is known to be copy protected and not for sale in the United States. This product does not meet the "Redbook" standards for what constitutes a music CD in the United States. Contact the vendor you bought your plastic coaster from and complain. They know they have sold you a bill of goods, but are hoping you will eat the cost rather than complain. Unless we complain and return this **** when it is pawned off on us there will be no solution, only work arounds.

    Having waded through all the above with the same problem with Warner CDs and a Dell (using Windows 7), I concluded by the far the best workaround was to rip my CDs on my other laptop (a cheap cheerful Acer which I checked played the tiresome CDs fine) via Mediaplayer> then copy them on to a flash drive, > put this into my main Dell and then just load them up into iTunes via the 'add folder' function. A bit of hassle - but worked fine for the small number of affected CDs I had which now play as clear as a bell. None of this excuses either Warner for producing CDs that don't play and / or Dell for kit  that doesn't work. Not a great incentive to the law-abiding citizen who actually pays for their music by buying a CD, eh, Warner?

    Had the same problem and was solved by updating the firmware through samsung here

    Thanks! Had the same problem with distorted sound on Warner cd's. My Dell had a Lite-On player, and no updates was to be found. Got a Samsung player, same problem happened, but after updating it through your link, I'ts all good!
