Microsoft Mouse 5000 Scrolling wheel problem and windows 7

I've purchased a Microsoft Mouse 5000 recently and from day one i realized that the wheel behavior was weird.

For example in Winamp i can scroll up in the playlist but i have to turn the wheel several times downwards before it scrolls anything.

Also i noticed that the scrolling wheel behaves weird in photoshop when zooming and other programs, i tried the windows seven Intelipoint drivers for the 64 bit version witch i have, with no improvement whatsoever.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate RC (i dont remember the RC Version)

This apparently is dependant on the type of Microsoft Mouse you have.

I have a desktop and a laptop.

Desktop uses an old Intellipoint 3.0 while the laptop has a wireless Explorer Mini Mouse.

In the same applications on either machine the scrolling will be different.

The Intellipoint 3.0 will work everywhere as it should while in the same application the Explorer Mini Mouse will just flat out not scroll at all. But it depends on where in the application it is that I'm trying to scroll.

Example:

Microsoft Money:

• ABLE to scroll on Options screen, and dialog boxes.

• NOT able to scroll the account Registrar (really annoying btw)

Xara Xtreme (Imaging program)

• ABLE to scroll in options and dialog boxes, and lists (font selections, etc)

• NOT able to scroll on the main display (similar to Photoshop zooming / panning if ctrl is held while scrolling, the zoom is changed)

But, if I use switch my Intellipoint to the laptop, and use it on the same applications WITH THE SAME DRIVER PACKAGE INSTALLED (just switch which mouse I'm using in the Microsoft Mouse settings) then I can scroll all I want.

Unfortunately I've gotten used to moving to the scroll bar in certain places... but that is REALLY IRRITATING and causes more frustration than the mouse is worth sometimes.... I've had this problem for over a year, and I keep hoping that a new driver update will fix it... unfortunately it hasn't.

PS. I dont' know about you, but I really hate searching through Microsoft's "support" pages. Each page seems so Irrelevant to the terms ya searched for... ...makes things really hard to get figured out.

    Similar situation - I just got a Wireless Mouse 5000 and it's fantastic, except for the scroll wheel.

    Adjusting the sensitivity in the Mouse and Keyboard Center helped a little bit, but I found that scrolling was a bit touchy, even to the point of the screen going in the opposite direction a bit sometimes.

    What really helped was opening Mouse Properties and reducing the number of lines at a time. Started at 14, the odd scrolling went away in the 10-11 range. Makes things scroll a bit slower, but smoother.

    Another odd note was that if I put a little bit of pressure on the wheel (almost, but not quite pushing the center button) the problem would go away as well.

    I could not change my mouse under "connected devices" as there were no other options (mice listed).

    Anyway, I don't think that that is the best solution. Also, I think I now have a better understanding of the problem... The problem seems to be with (Microsoft?) laser mice specifically and something called smooth scrolling. Some applications simply do not work too well with this feature.

    Luckily Microsoft have realised this and have provided a way to disable it for specific applications - you can set these.

    To disable smooth scrolling for a specific application, go to your mouse's settings (Control Panel -> Devices and Printers) and click on the Wheel tab. Under vertical scrolling there should be an option in blue: "Identify programs that don't scroll correctly." Simply click on this and add your application(s).

    PS: I have a Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 and Natural Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard 7000. I got my setup to work by NOT installing the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center, but by installing IntelliPoint Software for each (Mouse and Keyboard) separately. There might be (is hopefully) an option to do the same in the Mouse and Keyboard Center also, but I am not going to break my setup now that it is working, simply to find out :-). If there is (and it works), please let me know.

    I have a Microsoft Wireless 5000 mouse. When I try to middle mouse click and drag, I lose what I was working on, and my computer goes to a blank page.

    I have extremely wierd scrolling issues since I installed driver version 8.20.409.0. I searched everywhere on the MS website to figure out what happened between 7 and 8.2. Only thing I could find, were answers that there could be conflitcts between old drivers and new ones. Well....DUH! I could not figure out how to uninstall old drivers. Going to the control panel and the device manager did not yield any results. MS never really helped in describing how to find all old drivers.

    just to figure out to to find hidden drivers. Turns out, I had about a dozen HID drivers, and half a dozen other drivers. I deleted them all, including the current driver for my mouse. My obviously did not work at all after that. I unplugged the mouse from it's USB spot, plugged it back in. The 8.20.409.0 version reinstalled itself, and now the mouse works wonderfully!

    A word to Microsoft, if anyone ever reads this:

    Not everybody is an expert on finding and manipulating hidden system files! You have a thing or two to learn from people like "The Geek" I linked to above in how to briefly describe how to perform certain functions in a step-by-step, specific manner as "The Geek!"
