Error 2738 could not access VBScript run time for custom action.

I'm attempting to activate my Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go device on my Acer Aspire 1410 running 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.  The installation aborts mid-way through with Error 2738 -- could not access VBScript run time for custom action.  I was able to successfully install on my wife's HP with the same OS, so the problem is not with the Broadband2Go device.  Command "regsvr32 vbscript.dll" did not fix the problem.

Microsoft has created a Fix-It for this!  

What this Fix it does is to remove incorrect or corrupt registry entries that interfere with VB support in windows and then re-registers the DLL ensuring that the correct registry setting are there. After running the Fix it solution you may be able to immediately  try the operation that previously gave you the error, but to be sure, a reboot is suggested. This will address similar issues with other programs as well and not just the applications that are specifically mentioned in this thread.

    Please help, I'm getting the same error code when I try and uninstall Hallmark Card Studio.

    I've gone into cmd as an adminnstrator and done what you've suggested below, no joy.

    Mine is a 64 bit system.  I want to remove the software completely and am trying to do it via the programs window and uninstall.

    Well I am having the same issue Error 2738 could not access VBScript run time for custom action when I try to install incredimail I have just done a factory restore in the last 2 days I do not even have all of stuff loaded back yet and I came across this problem so here are my details and what I have tried already:

    I am Running Windows Vista Home Premium Service pack 2 32bit

    I do use Mcafee and had it installed and after reading down just to be sure I uninstalled it and ran the cleaner program suggested and still it did not work I reinstalled and nope still did not work so I have currently uninstalled it again and run the cleaner again 3 times

    I have run all of the command prompt suggestions still does not work

    I tried to delete the registry entry suggested HKCU\SOFTWARE \Classes\CLSID{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8} but it is not there to delete

    I did run this command that was suggested reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8} and I am thinking that maybe this one was not a good idea but can not figure out if it was or not

    Then I was reading in this thread about Mcafee taking over a registry entry and redirecting it somewhere it shouldn't so I went to just look and this is what I found:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32 - Default REGSZ C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\ScriptSn.20110417221023.dll

    and No I have not reinstalled McAfee yet and have run the cleaner 3 times why is there still a McAfee registry entry I followed the path C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\ScriptSn.20110417221023.dll and guess what it does not exist and yes I looked in hidden files I even ran a search in all files and it is not anywhere

    I had already run the sfc /scannow once before I deleted the McAfee and it did find corrupt files but said they were fixed so I ran it again just to check and this time no errors

    HELP I am at a loss as to what to next besides doing another Factory Restore which I really really do NOT want to since I just did one I have had my computer since Feb of 2007 so the amount of updates to Vista I have to do are well all together not including the Service Pack 1 and 2 there are over 300 critical have not even looked at the optional yet so it is pardon my language a pain in the a@@

    PLEASE can someone HELP!!!!!! This thread seems like people actually know what they are talking about even though nothing has worked for me just yet

    Jake Ludington's solution did it for me. Problem occurred when trying to install Incredimail2 on an Asus notebook running Win 7 64-bit.
