After restoring Windows 7 I got the error message also. I tried your advice and got another error message for the Task Scheduler.

So I tried another way suggested and combined both recommendations.

Thought I’d pass it along in case it can help someone else.

    Here’s what worked for me.

    Go to Computer

    Access OS (C:)

    Click on Windows

    Open System 32

    Click on Tasks

    Open Microsoft

    Click Windows

    Open WindowsBackup folder.****Delete Automatic Backup

    Delete Windows Backup Monitor task.

Go back to the Control Panel

Click on Back up your computer.

At this point my computer opened up the Backup and Restore and let me create a new backup.

No error messages to be seen.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

Contacted Answer Desk to resolve this problem.

They sent me the following link which took me back to this very site??

Is that really the best Microsoft can do?

Any way here is the link for those suffering from the same problem.

    Good Luck.

I am getting the same error, tried EVERYTHING suggested.  Nothing has worked.  No access or some error message.

Can't Microsoft help resolve this issue?

I had a mess after I switch back to Windows 7 from 10.  Thankfully I had made a mirror image disk and a back up system.  I installed the mirror image dish into the laptop and it has comeback to most of what it was before.  I used my external drive and backed up to a date prior to the installation of Win10, which was fine with me.  I did not loose any documents I created but had to reformulate them to RTF.  HP was kind enough to reprogram my printer and, so far, it's working.

Thank you so much!  This is the first helpful post I've found after 2 days of searching and chatting with Microsoft Answer Desk.  It worked.  I'm actually backing up my system to an external drive as I speak (type)!  Thanks again!
