Pictures not showing in my pictures folder (library)

I have windows 7 and when I go into my pictures folder the pictures are not showing up, instead a picture of the ocean with what looks like a tropical island.  I would really like my pictures to show up in that so I can see if I have double and compare which one I like better.   Any ideas how to fix/change it to where my pictures show up.

Thank you

  1. Click the start button, click onpictures, now on the left side column or files tree, click on**(my pictures),**Listed near the bottom.
  2. Click on (organize) on the top/ left side,
  3. Now click on (folder and search options),from the drop down list, click on the(view) tab, see if the top option is checked, If so uncheck the box that says**(always show icons and never thumbnails)** click apply/ and save/ close the window,

Hi Areil Delphinus,

a. Were the pictures showing up in the Pictures library earlier?

In case the files were showing up earlier in the Pictures library, and now the pictures have gone missing, you may restore the default libraries.

  1. Click Start and select Computer.
  2. In the Navigation Pane (on the left hand side), right-click Libraries and select Restore default libraries.

This would restore Libraries to its original state.

If you have your pictures saved on a different location on the hard-disk, you may include those folders in the library.

A library gathers content from various folders. You can include folders from different locations in the same library, and then view and arrange the files in those folders as one collection. For example, if you keep some of your pictures on an external hard drive, you can include a folder from that hard drive in your Pictures library, and then access that folder's files in your Pictures library whenever the hard drive is connected to your computer.

Refer the following Microsoft article for more information:

Include folders in a library

Hope this helps.

dojeeich -  I'm still having the same annoying problem as you. I too would like to understand why I'm seeing icons instead of my pictures and for the life of me, I don't understand it. If you hear of anything to help us please let me know, and I'll do the same . . .

I've been having the same problem for a few weeks now and have no idea why; no settings were changed on my end before this happened.  I tried every suggestion listed here without any success.

Would really like to see the images again instead of the annoying "icons".

Right before you select pictures library, look on the left side column, select my pictures with the yellow icons next to them, see if any thing you recognize appears,

Your folders could also just be hidden, see if you can see an option to show hidden files or folders, if not click the links in the headers tool bar and see if any of them list show hidden folders or files.

Every time if ever seen those landscape or horizon emblems they were nothing but windows sample pictures in sample folders.
