As with any database, information that is stored in the database or the database itself can become corrupted. The Windows Media Player library database can usually recover automatically from database corruption. However, the database may become corrupted in such a way that Windows Media Player cannot recover the database.

   1. Click Start , click Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player , and then click OK .

   2. Select all the files in the folder , and then click Delete on the File menu.

      Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

   3. Restart Windows Media Player.

 Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files . To do this, follow these steps:

If you are running Windows 7/Vista, click Start , click

Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft , and then click OK.

Select the Media Player folder , and then click Delete on the

File menu.

Restart Windows Media Player .

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Laura, to stop the WMP Network Sharing Service, go to Start, type services.msc in the Search field, and press Enter. In Services, find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is Started , double-click the service and click  Stop . Does that help?

    Thank you!  This worked!!!  Finally after over 20 hours trying to figure out why my files weren't showing in MP!!!  I almost removed the program and bought a brand new one. I'm so happy to see my files back!!

    i've tried these steps to no avail. I even tried reinstalling wmp12 by goin to the start> (run cmd) windows features> expand media features tab> wmp and turn that off then restart then turn back on.. no luck there. It shows my music in the library. at first it even acted like it was playing a song but I hear nothing. checked youtube and get sound on there no prob... but now when i click play on a song i get the little red x next to the song name. I would try a system restore but for some reason ever since i upgraded to win7 from vista my system restore fails to be created even.

    just tried removing the ID3 Tags like wmp help suggests..no good there either

    well this is the error code Windows Media Player C00D11B1 i've tried all the steps there..nothing seems to be working..i just reinstalled windows like 2 weeks ago.. looks like i'll have to be doin it again.. *sigh*

    update: er well maybe not.. just was messing with my sound theme and it informed me my realtek audio device was using enhancing settings that could cause problems so i turned it off and booyah music again!
