Hi Jimmy S.C.,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Forum.

As with any database, information that is stored in the database or the database itself can become corrupted. The Windows Media Player library database can usually recover automatically from database corruption. However, the database may become corrupted in such a way that Windows Media Player cannot recover the database.

   1. Click Start , click Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player , and then click OK .

   2. Select all the files in the folder , and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

   3. Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files . To do this, follow these steps:

If you are running Windows 7/Vista, click Start , click

Run , type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft , and then click OK.

Select the Media Player folder , and then click Delete on the

File menu.

Restart Windows Media Player .

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Hope it helped

Laura, to stop the WMP Network Sharing Service, go to Start, type services.msc in the Search field, and press Enter. In Services, find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is Started , double-click the service and click  Stop . Does that help?

I ripped a newly purchased CD. The songs did not appear in the Windows Media Library nor did the Album register after I edited all of the required information. In addition, the CD is not being accepted even to play.

Hi,  I tried this because I cannot play my files from Windows Movie Maker.  I could play them yesterday and now the troubleshooter says "windows media library is corrupted"

I tried the suggestion above but cannot delete the files.  It states:

currentdatabase_372 cannot be deleted because it is open in the Windows Media Network Sharing Service.  Close file and retry.

I don't know how to close that file.

    THanks,

    Laura

    Hi Laura!

To delete currentdatabase_372, you need to stop the sharing service by opening service.msc, clicking the standard section and disabling this service in order to continue. Then go back to the Media Player folder and you can proceed.

    You're Welcome

    Liam
