Windows 7, touchpad sensitivity, Sony VAIO

I had Windows Vista Home Premium installed on my Sony VAIO PCG-5KSP laptop computer.

It never happened before, but after I installed Windows 7 the touchpad sensitivity went through the roof. The cursor constantly will be "clicked" by my finger or wrist and move to where the mouse is located while I am typing.

It's already happened twice while typing this! I have already tried searching for TouchPad and looked under Control Panel > Mouse >

There is no tab for Properties/Settings with Sensitivity. Under Properties is only shows General, Driver, and Details, and if I click on Change Settings it again only has General, Driver, and Detail tabs.

Where can I change the stupid touchpad sensitivity??

This is the answer --- I installed Synaptics for Vista even though I have Windows 7 --- they work beautifully together.  You can then disable your touchpad and us a bluetooth mouse and the problem is solved!!!  It's great.

    Thank you! The tap to click had been bugging for quite a while now also, but yeh, once I installed the driver i was just a checked box away. Thanks again!

    Hi astralis84,

    Are You sure then You wrote correct model? I can't find it over the Sony and google sites.

    If You are not sure how to find correct model number then.

    Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Mouse and other pointing devices

    Click with right button of Your mouse on touchpad ther and choose properties. Then go to bottom details and paste here Hardware Ids. This way we will know what it is (ALPS or Synaptics touchad).

    Below You've got example how to do it:

    If You have installed any drivers for touchpad then uninstall them first.

    If You want find any drivers to uninstall there then restart Your system and on boot press F8 and choose safe mode.

    Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Mouse and other pointing devices

    and find there Your touchpad. Click on it with right button of Your mouse and choose uninstall driver.

    Only when You will do this install drivers from below:

    Synaptics touchpad here driver provided by Sony for Win7 32/64 bit (version 13.2.6.1)

    being that Astralis hasnt replied since the last post (directing to manufactuer driver support) it would be nice to assume the issue had been resolved.

    most touchpad software comes direct from the manufacturer, almost always this is the case. installing the correct touchpad drivers is just about essential to achieving all the capabilites and settings of the touchpad. just check with the manufacturer web-site and look for support/driver section. the files needed to do these settings (namely sensitivity) are installed with a setup disc of some sort that came with the laptop itself.

    remember to post the name/model of the laptop in question

    if your manufacturer doesnt supply or hasnt yet to make a Windows 7 driver, in quite a few cases, a Windows Vista or Windows XP driver has worked. (use compatbility mode on install exe(right-click choose compat mode))
