Music flickers/crackles in Windows Media Player when browsing the Internet

The problem with online streaming was solved, in my case the problem was my video driver, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 310 and after I updated to a new driver that was release recently the problem disappeared, also I had to change the Video settings to performance to get rid of audio dropouts. Also  I was having problems like, no sound or  the sound would stop during audio playback (ASIO or not). I realized the "stereo vision control panel api" process from NVIDIA was causing the problem. I stopped the Service "NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service" from automatic start, and so far so good, and keeping my fingers crossed.

It's not a driver issue. I've tried many drivers and swapped ALL components out of my system and I see the same issue.

Installed the Codec lite pack .

Disabled speaker effects (enhancements).

Twiddled with every imaginable setting in the Sound panel in Windows 7

Turned off Aero to use a basic theme

Uninstalled any energy saving software by the mobo manufacturer (asus)

Reset the BIOS to the factory default settings.

Flashed the system BIOS to several different versions.

Reinstalled the operating system from ground up.

swapped several different sound cards, internal and external.

swapped several different nics.

Swapped the Video Card.

I even swapped the MoBo with a similar model.

The only think I haven't swapped is the CPU and Power supply. Neither seem likely culprits for a sound problem.

The only thing that affects the popping is a reboot, which resolves it for a few hours, or disabling the network adapter, which resolves the issue 100%, but I sort of need network access.

It sure seems inherent to Windows 7.

Good luck getting this resolved. I gave up on my system after replacing every component including the motherboard and Power Supply. So I foolishly went out and bought a new computer. An HP HPE-150f running Windows 7 x64. Guess what? Exactly the same problem. The only common factor is Windows 7 x64. The only workaround is to reboot the computer several times a day.

I see this one two different Windows 7 systems that have completely different hardware, and are using different virus scanners. The only common thread is Window 7 x64.

I also have the same problem but i think mine is simple, it just crackles even if im just using WMP 12. i tried this:

start>"type sound" then sound properties, click properties on your default sound device(mine is on speakers and headphones)>advanced tab(replace your default sound format quality)

then it was solved, on my case though. at first i used 24bit 192000hz studio quality, then i switched to 24bit 96000hz studio quality. then its fixed. (i dont know if its only for now but the crackles didnt appear since then). hope this helps.

oh, and also, both boxes on exclusive mode are on. i dont know their uses though. hahaha..
