Music flickers/crackles in Windows Media Player when browsing the Internet

HI - I just got a new PC with Windows 7.  It's an HP Pavillion Slimline with 3GB Memory and an Intel duo core processor.  I'm finding that when I play MP3s or WMAs via Windows Media Player that the sound crackles (sounds like static) when I browse the Internet using IE8.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this annoying issue.

    If this is a new OEM system that shipped with Windows 7, please contact the OEM as they have specific information on their systems.

    It's built by a Mom-and-pop shop, and they have no idea what the problem is.

    I haven't looked but I am guessing your GT220 has the ability to output via HDMI, Hence the extra audio hardware.

    Have you tried disabling the GT216?

    did a quick dig, and it looks like Nvidia has been in the spot light before for causing noticeable DTC.

    I haven't benchmarked my DTC.

    I get some stuttering when I am playing games on my laptop.

    I am just glad most games play on a video adapter that was intended for CAD and 3d modeling.

    However, No Audio Stutter/Lag when multitasking TCP/IP I/O and Audio decoding.

    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

    Intel Duo P8600 2.4 Ghz

    2 Gb Ram  single channel

    HP Elitebook 8530W

    Nvidia Quadro 770m

    Don't know how much time you have for trail and error, but if time allows and you have or can borrow other parts,

    I would Dump the Dual Nvidia setup install a single ATI based card and do a Fresh load of windows 7 on a Spare Harddrive.

    Thanks Ara, but I don't see any relationship between the problem and hard disk activity. The problem grows and grows depending on Web traffic. Eventually, the noise is very bad when I do anything Web related, as the tests with the DPC latency tool show 

    • the problem temporarily disappears when I disable the network adapter.

    What is the MOBO make and model?

    What Video Display card?

    I used to see this quite often with older VIA based northbridges.

    Some minor crosstalk with NIC traffic, and heavy crosstalk during HDD read/writes.
