Hello, somehow I have managed to disable the shortcuts for cutting and pasting. I can only do it manually through the menu bar. I cannot Ctrl C or Ctrl V anymore - nothing happens! What have I done? Please help.

Annoying problem if you rely 100% on keyboard shortcuts! I had the same problem and the fix is very easy. You will need to uninstall your keyboard driver and restart your computer and your CTRL keys will function once again. To do this:
1) Click Start
2) Control Panel
3) Printers and Other Hardware
4) Keyboard
5) In the Keyboard Properties window, click Hardware
6) Click Properties
7) Click Driver
8) Click Uninstall, click OK
9) Restart your Computer

Is this only happening in Microsoft Word or does this also occur in other programs like 'Notepad"? I went to Microsoft Word support and am showing commands listed below. Again, if only happening within Word, I would suggest going to site listed.

I found a completely different solution to this very same problem and my solution did not involve drivers,software or even hardware -- at least not hardware of the computer kind (you'll see what I mean by that in a moment). Anyway, when I'd depress my left CTRL/C keys, instead of staying on the file I was trying to copy, the cursor would jump to another file and then just sit there. Same with CTRL/X. Since it had worked the day before and since none of the fixes above worked for me, I decided to do a system restore. But that didn't solve the problem either. I was becoming more and more frustrated when I finally tried the CTRL key on the right side of my keypad. It worked fine for CTRL/C, CTRL/V and CTRL/X functions. Since the right CTRL key worked and the left one did not, I deduced it had nothing to do with software, settings or drivers. I felt it had to do with a mechanical issue with the left CTRL key (which is the one I normally use). It was then that I noticed a shiny metallic object lodged between the Fn key and the left CTRL key. So I pried up the CTRL key and guess what? I found a small nail (as in a wall nail) lodged between the FN key and the CTRL key. I managed to get it out using a pair of tweasers, after which the left CTRL key worked fine. Luckily for me, the nail hadn't shorted out my entire keyboard! Just thought I'd throw this in just in case none of the fixes above work. My "fix" demonstrates how important it is to keep not only liquids, but small metallic objects, from falling into your keyboard!
I just tried the 9 steps you listed, but still can not copy/paste from my email to word using CTRL C/CTRL V.
This only appeared on my new laptop with Windows 7 professional.
My previous Windows 7 Home edition computer (which died last month) did not have this problem.
I can work around it by enabling the clipboard in Office applications, but I never had to do this before.

I have some data on my desktop and even in some other folders on my local drives even. I am able to select the item, right click and copy also. But the content (be it alpha or numeric or a file or an image) is not being pasted either in the mail box, in the local drive (even to a folder ) etc..
I am using Windows XP SP3 with Dualcore 2.8, 4Gigs of RAM and 320GB HDD. Please suggest me on this.

Could you supply the steps on Win7 please? Can't find 3
BTW it does work in Notepad, just not in MS Office Word 2007.
