I cannot download pictures from my iphone to my PC. The PC recognizes itunes and syncs with the iphone. However, the pc does not recognize the iphone as an external device (i.e. camera).  Therefore, I do not see the iphone under the computer as a device options. Also, I checked the settings on autoload and they are correct, however the PC still does not recognize nor does it autoload the Iphone. I spoke with apple tech support and they said it is not a problem with the iphone but instead it is a problem with Microsoft. can you please help me?

Hi Byron R.

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers Forums!

1.       Were you able to download pictures from Iphone earlier?

2.       Any recent changes made on your computer?

3.       Are you getting any error while downloading pictures?

You may try this method.

If you click start and within the start search type auto play you then should see auto play populate under programs select auto play.

Once in Auto play scroll down to Devices and see if you see your Iphone within devices click the drop down box and set to import pictures using windows then click ok then plug you Iphone and see if it lets you import.

Also if you want it to ask you what action you want to take whenever you plug in your Iphone just select "ask me every time" from the Auto play.

The Iphone will not transfer photos to your computer if the device is locked and you are using a pass code. If you want to transfer photos, simply unlock (Slide to unlock and enter pass code) your device to transfer photos.

Note: Plug the Iphone to your computer in unlocked mode.

For more information on importing pictures refer  to this link:

The easiest option is to download your photo's manually if your operating system can't recognise your iPhone 4S, I tried all the other advice given below such as deleting photo's friends sent, did an update for Device Driver for iPhone and nothing worked so I looked up Windows Website with regard to importing photo's from a device where it is not automatically recognised by Operating System. I have Windows Vista.

Very simple to solve, click on start, click on Windows Photo Gallery, click on file, import from camera or scanner, after clicking on this my iPhone 4S was detected and I just clicked import and it imported my photo's. After looking up many web sites the problem seems to be very common and an issue which needs to be resolved.

Thanks so very much to everyone who took the time to post the answer to this problem.  I am so used to everything being plug and play and have been a firm supporter of the pc for so long that the mac/apple technology is a bit elusive.  But the answers provided to this post were very helpful and now I can transfer my kids Christmas picture from my crappy iphone that keeps shutting off for no good reason!  Thanks so much!
