Windows Media Player 12: Always show list

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my computer to Windows 7.

When I was on XP, the list pane of WMP 11 was always displayed in the right part of the screen (except in full screen mode).

Now on WMP 12, I have to manually right-click and choose "Show list" each time I open WMPand each time a new video starts .

Could you tell me how to permanently display the list pane ?

There is no way to get or save the "list pane" in Windows Media Player 12. You must create a playlist to see your play list pane.

I've been playing around with this for hours trying to get the same thing your tyring to get.  Microsoft has changed alot in version Windows Media Player 12. The last version of windows media player 11 is the only version that can show the playing list pane.

    Sorry, but this reply is really unhelpful. It's NOT a problem with Windows - it's a stupid change made by MS which means the Media Player ALWAYS defaults to a blank play window, rather than keeping the playlist visible when you start it up.

    I agree with everything that Ke4aht wrote above. Microsoft - PLEASE fix this! Your users do not like these kinds of compulsory changes, especially over something so simple yet useful as having the playlist show automatically! This cannot be hard to change - please undo this myopic change to Media Player, and put it back as it was before so that it remembers your last show/hide playlist setting.

    1. Mediaplayer with default settings has never remembered your last playlist.
    2. About the problem with "allways show list" in "now playing mode" when you are playing videos. As I wrote before its a kind of a bug, because its not a problem every users have. Maybe that explains why supporters dont understand this thread. Anyway I have this problem before and now I have reinstalled windows 7 and the problem is gone. But...

    When I open my video music playlist then I still have to click on "show list", but after that when I trackin around the videos the List still showing....

    Solution if list pane is gone when changing movie:

    This is a workaround from my part that I found helping when listpane is hidden after changing movies.

    • add a mp3 file in top of your playlist then the movies you want to watch after that.
    • with list pane and all files visible start your mp3 file and skip to next movie.
    • list pane might be hidden again, just choose to show it again and hit mp3 file then a movie file.
