Windows Media Player 12: Always show list
Hi everyone,
I recently updated my computer to Windows 7.
When I was on XP, the list pane of WMP 11 was always displayed in the right part of the screen (except in full screen mode).
Now on WMP 12, I have to manually right-click and choose "Show list" each time I open WMPand each time a new video starts .
Could you tell me how to permanently display the list pane ?

There is no way to get or save the "list pane" in Windows Media Player 12. You must create a playlist to see your play list pane.
I've been playing around with this for hours trying to get the same thing your tyring to get. Microsoft has changed alot in version Windows Media Player 12. The last version of windows media player 11 is the only version that can show the playing list pane.
- About the problem with "allways show list" in "now playing mode" when you are playing videos. As I wrote before its a kind of a bug, because its not a problem every users have. Maybe that explains why supporters dont understand this thread. Anyway I have this problem before and now I have reinstalled windows 7 and the problem is gone. But...
When I open my video music playlist then I still have to click on "show list", but after that when I trackin around the videos the List still showing....
As you said, the problem with the "always show list" in now playing mode is a bug. What people are asking is for Microsoft to fix that bug.
By re-installing Windows 7, you are just re-installing that same bug. It doesn't fix the problem. It may have worked for you, due to some other configuration change you may have made during the re-install, but that doesn't mean that it will fix the problem for everybody.
Re-installing the operating system of your computer can be a complex and time-consuming process, especially if you will also have to re-install all the application programs that you use, and restore all your data from a backup. It is not worth doing that process, just to fix windows media player, especially when there is no guarantee, and most likely will not work to fix the problem.
You are absolutely right. But... First of all, I got closer to the problem. Thats a step to a direction to an understand. You have 3 choices - 1. Wait for a fix. 2. Ignorer 3. Try to reinstall. What else can I say? Most of people are just complaining it can not be true that I have to reinstall and bla bla bla.... but for now you have no choice, otherwise don't use windows. Do what you have to, I don't care.
But you have been telling people that re-installing windows will fix the problem. You were probably lucky, and it worked for you, but for most people it will not work. Se we are down to 2 choices: wait for a fix or ignore the problem.
The whole purpose of this thread is to inform Microsoft of the problem, and asking that they issue a fix. If nobody informs Microsoft of the problem, then your choices are limited to just ignore the problem.

I just want to take a minute and show my disgust for Microsoft's WMP team. I have been following this thread since the beginning, and I even posted in Microsoft's Technet forums abuot this same issue:

I decided to come back and check out both threads now that several months have passed (3/4 of a year), in hopes that MS has finally fixed the issue. Of course, absolutely nothing has been done, and one user is suggesting people reinstall Windows to fix the issue - are you kidding me? You're suggesting people reinstall their entire operating system so that some tiny option in a media player will work? That's absurd (and won't work anyway - why would using the same install disc change anything?)! How on earth are we going to get any of the changes we want if no one is listening?
The least they could do is say "Nope, we're not going to add the feature", and then we'd know we could stop waiting for it, but instead we get nothing. I normally don't make angry posts, but this is just ridiculous. Why change something that's been standard for the last six versions, and not at least have an option to change it back? I am a programmer, and I can't fathom any situation where this option would be difficult to implement. Just do it already.
Fortunately, there are still ways to install WMP11 on Windows 7, and that's what I intend to do when I finally upgrade from Vista.
