USB flash drive prompts with "Write Protected" message.

I have recently purchased a 32gb usb flash drive. I have been using it ok until 3 days ago. I now get a message saying "Write Protected". There is no write protection switch on the device. How do i remove the write protection.

Hi,

You can remove write protection from your usb flash drive using the below method:

a. Open start menu, in the search bar type regedit and press enter. This wil open the registry editor.

b. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note:

If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies does not exist, you will need to create it manually.

c. Highlight StorageDevicePolicies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named as WriteProtect.

d. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right window and set the value to 0 in the Value

Data Box and press OK button

e. Restart your computer and try copying files into your USB drives.

Important Note:

Sometimes this problem is caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. To fix the problem, you have to use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted registry entries.

However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    In part "C." of your explanation, it seems that all of a sudden you forgot everything you knew about English. Everything else is ok, but what a mess you made of the sentence.

    1. You have to make System Driver Policies Folder ,in default it does not exist in windows and in normal working pen-drive if you change the DWORD value to 1  from 0 then your pen-drive write-protection enabled and if changed to 0 it will disable write-protection , i tested this in windows 7(64 bit),windows xp, and windows 8 (64 bit)
    2. The other thing is that there are also other causes of pen-drive to be write-protected, not this only (means DWORD value changed)
    3. In some cases windows will unable to remove write-protection, i experience it in many cases

    When I change the value in Storagedevice Policies to 0 it again Becomes 1.

    So I cant delete any file from USB.

    What to do to change files of USB.

    I am using windows XP

    Hi..im kind of a freelance Comp.Tech here..i have tried everything and actually some of the procedure that i do can be done this way..the other usb i tries do not..so??there is no assurance that this will work on your USB TOO..

    and there is NO "storagedevicepolicy" that is why you have to create and make a new VALUE WORD which will be named "writeprotectvalue"..

    all you have to do is ( follow this carefully or IT CAN DAMAGE YOUR REGISTRY )

    1. find REGEDIT and go to *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control*
    2. CLICK CONTROL (only once), on the right side of the registry - RIGHT CLICK -choose NEW - DWORD (32-BIT VALUE) to MAKE A NEW VALUE - which will be NAMED "WriteProtectValue" and SET IT TO ZERO  ( 0 )
    3. close the registry
    4. Restart your PC..

    hope this will work..
